Position Description: The Interdisciplinary Conservatory at Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as Director of the Vocal Jazz "New Deal" Ensemble. This is a part-time position offering a unique opportunity to shape an innovative, cross-disciplinary ensemble at one of Chicago's most distinctive performing arts institutions, and to mentor the next generation of jazz and contemporary voice artists in a creative, collaborative environment.
This position entails the following categories of instruction:
Primary: Directorship of the Vocal Jazz Ensemble
Secondary: Potential for weekly applied Jazz and Contemporary Voice lessons taught onsite at the Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) Chicago campus, working with students enrolled in the following degree programs:
Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Performance
Bachelor of Music Education
Bachelor of Musical Arts
Bachelor of Arts
Potential for teaching in other relevant areas as assigned.
Job Duties:
Cultivate and sustain a rehearsal culture grounded in effective, healthy, and student-centered pedagogy.
Support the retention of enrolled students through engaged mentorship.
Applied studio instructors: Participation in recruitment activities, including auditions.
Applied studio instructors: Participation in program meetings, recital adjudications and juries.
Maintain clear and responsive communication with students, faculty, and staff, utilizing assigned Roosevelt University email.
Meet institutional expectations for grade submission, syllabus preparation, and mandatory University training.
This is a part-time position with a cap of 20 total teaching hours per week.
Compensation: Vocal Jazz Ensemble Direction: Annual stipend of $7,200 ($3,600/semester). Applied Studio Instruction: $80–$90/studio hour, commensurate with experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required - Bachelor's degree; significant teaching and/or performing experience will be considered in place of earned degrees. Documented record of consistent professional experience and visibility as a performer. Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree; significant teaching and/or performing experience will be considered in place of earned degrees. Experience in collegiate level teaching. Excellent interpersonal skills
Equipment Operated - Standard office technology (copier, scanner, computer) and studio environment.
Working Conditions - Standard climate and noise-controlled office, studio, and classroom environment. Position is largely sedentary, calling for frequent use of wrist for typing. May be exposed to loud voices and/or instruments from students practicing.
