Communications Director
Responsible for partnering with C‑suite leaders, advising on communication strategy, creating messaging for executive communications, and protecting and enhancing reputation.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a trusted advisor to C‑suite leaders, providing guidance on communication strategies that align with business objectives and enhance executive visibility.
Draft and shape executive communications, including speeches, talking points, presentations, leader emails, town halls, and video scripts.
Proactively manage executive profiles and reputations through thoughtful messaging, civic engagement, and strategic positioning.
Develop and execute communication plans that effectively reach and influence key stakeholders, including clients, employees, media, and investors.
Provide expert support in navigating sensitive issues, crisis communications, and change management initiatives.
Work closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure consistent messaging and alignment across all channels.
Evaluate communications effectiveness using qualitative and quantitative feedback and refine messaging, channels, and approaches.
Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in corporate communications, with a significant portion advising leaders.
Demonstrated executive presence and ability to interact confidently and discreetly with senior leaders.
Exceptional writing skills and mastery in developing clear, persuasive, impactful executive communications.
Strategic thinking and strong business acumen to translate complex concepts into accessible messages.
Experience in media relations, crisis communication, and reputation management.
Adaptability and proven success in fast‑paced, dynamic environments with shifting priorities.
Highly collaborative and relationship‑oriented, with strong cross‑functional working skills.
Compensation & Benefits
Expected salary range: $150,000 – $195,000 for the Chicago, IL market. Eligible for incentive compensation and discretionary bonus. Full range of benefits including medical, dental, vision, HSA, life, disability, paid time off, holidays, and 401(k).
