The Role: Associate Director, India Government Affairs and Public Policy

The Team: Reports to the Head of Government Affairs & Public Policy, APAC. Responsible for managing projects that understand, align, analyze, and identify policy issues related to our business across the S&P Global portfolio. Coordinates with product, legal, finance, and communications teams to design and evaluate policy responses and develops internal and external narratives while engaging key policy stakeholders.

The Impact: Supports and coordinates S&P Global’s public policy response and opportunities in India, collaborating with commercial, marketing, and public affairs teams. Maintains a strong internal network to create holistic messaging and positioning.

Must have a strong track record in communication and relationship management, excellent analytical and organizational skills, and a robust policymaker network. Experience with the Government of India, regulatory agencies, corporate public policy teams, trade associations, or other government roles is required.

As an Associate Director you will implement India’s public policy strategy across the entire S&P Global portfolio and advise internal teams on policy implications.

Responsibilities

  • Work with business leaders and external stakeholders to support advocacy and policy outreach based on S&P Global’s priorities.
  • Build relationships with policymakers, regulators, and other bodies to interpret legislative and regulatory landscapes.
  • Provide strategic direction to shape the company’s future based on policy initiatives.
  • Advocate to influence policy decisions, speak publicly, and represent the company’s interests when needed.
  • Advise division leaders on political and policy risks and align advocacy efforts to mitigate risks.
  • Coordinate with the Global Government Affairs and Public Policy Team to support senior leaders with thought leadership, meetings, trade associations, and events.
  • Identify opportunities for senior leadership to provide thought leadership and build relationships with key government officials and industry stakeholders.
  • Analyze how changes in government or policy trends may impact business operations.
  • Manage internal and external communications to promote S&P Global’s policy priorities.
  • Serve as a partner with legal, compliance, and risk teams to flag potential risks.
  • Co‑ordinate with outside groups to understand industry reactions to regulatory changes.
  • Educate internal and external audiences on policy issues and make strategic recommendations for market changes.
  • Liaise closely with commercial, marketing, legal, compliance, and risk teams to identify proactive policy opportunities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 8 years in government, corporate regulatory, think tanks, or public interest groups focusing on public policy in India.
  • Excellent personal, political, analytical, and communication skills with high attention to detail.
  • Experience in financial services, energy, commodities, technology, or data industries and surrounding policy environments.
  • Experience executing strategies with international teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Hindi.
  • Amenable to working APAC hours.
  • Amenable to a hybrid work setup.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent relationships and influencer network in India.
  • Public policy track record in another South Asian market.
  • Ability to lead and evaluate issues independently in a fast‑paced environment.
