Otterbein University seeks a Senior Director, Brand & Content Strategies to lead institutional branding, marketing, and messaging. Reporting to the Executive Vice President for Strategic Initiatives, this role provides strategic leadership for university-wide communications and ensures alignment of messaging across campus.
This position serves as Otterbein’s senior messaging strategist and writer, overseeing an integrated approach across earned media, social media, advertising, digital platforms, the institutional website, and recruitment materials. The Senior Director also supports presidential communications, oversees website content, contributes to Towers magazine, and leads brand development for the Coalition for the Common Good.
This is an exempt, full-time, 12-month position.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, supervise, and develop the Marketing and Communications team
- Manage workflow, priorities, and deadlines across projects
- Oversee department budget and performance management
- Collaborate closely with communications leadership
Brand Strategy & Institutional Marketing
- Provide strategic direction for institutional brand and marketing efforts
- Align messaging with enrollment and philanthropy goals
- Maintain brand standards, voice, and positioning
- Integrate marketing, PR, recruitment, and advancement into a unified strategy
Messaging & Content Development
- Serve as senior strategist and primary institutional writer
- Partner with senior leadership, including support for presidential messaging
- Translate strategic priorities into clear, compelling storytelling
- Integrate inclusion and belonging into communications
Coalition for the Common Good
- Lead brand development and marketing strategy
- Support alignment across Otterbein, Antioch, and CCG brands
Events & Publications
- Support messaging for major institutional events (e.g., Commencement, Alumni Gala)
- Contribute to Towers magazine
Supervision
Directly supervises key marketing, creative, and digital team members and provides guidance to additional communications staff.
Qualifications
Required
- 7–10 years of progressive leadership in marketing/communications
- Demonstrated success with brand strategy and campaigns
- Strong writing, leadership, and project management skills
- Experience managing teams and collaborating across diverse stakeholders
Preferred
- Higher education experience
- Social media strategy expertise
Additional Skills
- Strong organizational, creative, and strategic thinking abilities
- Proficiency with standard office technologies
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality
- Familiarity with ethical use of AI tools preferred
Primarily office-based with occasional travel and standard physical requirements.
