Music Directors ... 2026–2027 Season

Voices Boston, MA, USA

Job type: Full Time

Triboro Youth Theatre Music Directors – 2026–2027 Season

Triboro Youth Theatre is building its roster of Music Directors for the 2026–2027 season. This posting covers three grade‑level programs across our Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 sessions. Candidates may apply for one program or several – it is common for a single Music Director to work multiple productions in a season.

As Music Director, you are not a supporting role – you are one‑third of the creative team, working in close collaboration with the Production Director and Choreographer from early rehearsals through closing night. TYT productions are full‑scale musical theatres with live audiences, and musical quality is central to our work.

Every registered student gets a role. No one is cut. Auditions determine placement only.

FALL 2026 (September–November) WINTER 2027 (January–March)

Both sessions run the same three programs:

  • Grades 9–12: 2 rehearsals/week · 2 hours · 10–12 weeks

All stipends are per production, commensurate with experience.

Staff hired for Fall or Winter sessions are encouraged to apply for Summer programs as well.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all vocal and musical preparation for the production
  • Teach music to student performers in group rehearsal settings
  • Collaborate with Director and Choreographer as a unified creative team
  • Accompany rehearsals on piano/keyboard or arrange for appropriate accompaniment
  • Report 30 minutes prior to actor arrival; remain approximately 10 minutes after dismissal
  • Hold students to genuine musical standards while maintaining a joyful rehearsal environment
  • Support TYT's inclusive, learn‑by‑doing philosophy
  • Complete a CORI background check as required for all youth‑serving staff

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience as a Music Director for musical theatre productions
  • Strong vocal coaching and choral/ensemble conducting skills
  • Keyboard proficiency sufficient for rehearsal accompaniment
  • Experience working with youth performers
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Ability to pass a CORI background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience across multiple age groups (elementary through high school)
  • Familiarity with licensed musical theatre repertoire
  • Connections to the southeastern Massachusetts performing arts community

How to Apply

Submit a letter of intent, current résumé (including relevant production history), and up to three letters of recommendation via the TYT Production Staff Application Form. Please indicate in your application which program(s) and session(s) you are interested in.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Positions are filled as qualified candidates are identified – early applications are strongly encouraged.
