Position Summary
Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Director of Communications in BocaRaton, FL. The Director of Communications is a dynamic, visionary leader committed to elevating the visibility, reputation, and brand of the College of Social Work and Criminal Justice, including its two distinguished schools: the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice and the Phyllis and Harvey Sandler School of Social Work.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy that enhances the college’s visibility and reputation locally, nationally, and globally.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Dean, offering strategic counsel on branding, crisis communication, and reputation management.
- Champion innovative storytelling and digital engagement approaches that differentiate the college and highlight its academic excellence and community impact.
- Act as the primary media liaison, ensuring consistent, compelling messaging in partnership with University Media Affairs.
- Proactively position the college as a thought leader by promoting faculty research, student achievements, and community initiatives to external audiences.
- Lead the development of high‑impact content across web, social media, print, and multimedia platforms reflecting the college’s mission and brand identity.
- Oversee social media strategy and execution, leveraging analytics to drive engagement and expand reach.
- Ensure brand consistency and visual integrity across all communication channels.
- Foster transparent, engaging communication within the college through newsletters, updates, and events that strengthen collaboration and culture.
- Coordinate college‑wide gatherings and initiatives that reinforce shared values and strategic priorities.
- Design and implement promotional campaigns for college and school‑level events, ensuring maximum visibility and participation.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to showcase signature programs and initiatives.
- Supervise and mentor student workers, interns, and contractors to deliver exceptional communications support.
- Partner with the Division of Public Affairs and other university stakeholders to align college messaging with institutional goals.
- Represent the college in university‑wide communications forums as a key ambassador for its brand.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of appropriate experience.
- Demonstrated experience and comprehensive knowledge of communications, marketing, media, and public relations techniques and a track record of establishing and implementing integrated programs encompassing them.
- High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels.
- Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including board members, faculty, staff, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, problem‑solve, think strategically, and pay attention to detail.
- Proficiency in MS Office software and internet navigation.
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- High level of professionalism and dependability.

Commensurate with experience.
