Departmental Overview
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has more than 275 staff and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs, supporting over 850 student‑athletes who compete annually in the NCAA.
Responsibilities
As the primary architect and authority for live athletic productions, you will lead the strategic fan and gameday entertainment for Women's Basketball and Football and oversee creative concepting, show calling, and gameday presentation for Cal Women's Basketball. You will manage a dynamic, real‑time production environment, solve complex technical and broadcast issues, and create an emotional narrative that elevates the brand.
- Serve as the show caller and lead architect for all home Women's Basketball events, coordinating detailed scripting, technical control room oversight, video board integration, and musical atmosphere.
- Align marketing campaigns, sponsorship activations, and NIL initiatives into the live show flow to drive partner ROI and department revenue.
- Recruit, mentor, and supervise a scalable workforce of students and interns, providing professional‑grade training and guidance in live production, technical execution, and brand storytelling.
- Synchronize with Facilities, Operations, Marketing, and Spirit squads to ensure seamless logistics and integrate departmental goals into the live event framework.
- Spearhead the evolution of gameday traditions by integrating emerging technology—lighting, mobile apps, AI—and data‑driven fan feedback to modernize the atmosphere and attract elite recruits and brands.
- Manage gameday entertainment budgets, track expenses, and evaluate fan engagement via data to continuously improve future events.
- Govern the post‑game review process, analyzing fan sentiment and production performance, and implement continuous improvements to maintain excellence.
Required Qualifications
- Expert ability to direct live, multi‑camera productions, cueing audio, video, lighting, and on‑field talent with precision.
- Deep knowledge of professional broadcast hardware and show‑flow software.
- Skill in drafting minute‑by‑minute Rundowns of Show that integrate technical cues with entertainment segments.
- Proficiency in integrating modern fan‑engagement tools such as synchronized LED lighting, mobile app triggers, and AI‑driven content.
- Ability to translate corporate partner KPIs into organic, high‑energy moments that drive ROI without losing the crowd.
- Expert understanding of brand storytelling to ensure every video, graphic, and announcement reinforces the Cal identity.
- Knowledge of navigating NIL regulations to highlight student‑athletes within the live show flow.
- Strong coaching, mentoring, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Project and time management skills to prioritize and meet competing deadlines for individual and team tasks.
- Fiscal responsibility and experience managing the Gameday Entertainment budget.
- Experience recruiting, supervising, and scheduling numerous students or interns across simultaneous events.
- Familiarity with the production benchmarks of elite NCAA conferences or professional sports leagues.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience and training.
Salary & Benefits
The budgeted salary or hourly range for this position is $65,000 - $95,000. This full‑time, 40‑hour per week career position is exempt, monthly‑paid, and eligible for UC Benefits.
