Overview Communications Coordinator – University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland Regional Higher Education Center, located in Saint Mary’s County, MD.
Responsibilities Research, write, and edit newsletter stories.
Update and maintain the USMSM website.
Manage USMSM social media accounts.
Assist with events and visitors/VIPs.
Collaborate with staff and an external marketing contractor to develop recruiting and marketing material.
Assist the Executive Director with PowerPoints and community messages.
Complete other duties as assigned.
Support messaging efforts for the Clark School of Engineering’s MATRIX lab and the broader University System of Maryland.
Physical Demands Primarily office‑based work, requiring computer use.
Occasional setup and breakdown of light materials such as literature and signs.
Visual acuity for reviewing materials, designs, and publications.
Ability to maneuver around campus for meetings and events.
Provide accurate information to internal and external constituents.
Flexible work hours, including weekends, early mornings, and late evenings.
Preferred Skills Knowledge of Drupal CMS and website copywriting.
Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, QuarkXPress, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, Acrobat Professional, Microsoft Office, Business Content Manager, or ACT! database software.
Strong editorial, organizational, leadership, and management skills.
Experience with media relations and publishing production.
Newsletter creation and email marketing strategy, including social media analytics.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
At least one year of professional administrative or coordinator experience.
Up to four years of qualifying work experience may be substituted for education on a year‑for‑year basis.
Knowledge of best practices in organization, administration, and customer service.
Understanding of protocols for handling confidential information.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
Capability to multitask while maintaining customer service focus and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.
