Position Summary
The Photographer/Videographer serves as the University of Tampa'sprimary in-house photographer and a key contributor to theuniversity's visual storytelling efforts. This role is responsiblefor producing high-quality, brand-aligned photography that advancesUTampa's enrollment, reputation, advancement, and institutionalvisibility goals across digital, print, and campaignchannels.
In addition to photography, the position brings strong videoproduction capabilities to support integrated storytelling. Videoskills are a significant asset-used to capture and edit short- andmid-form video content that complements photography and enhancesdigital engagement.
Reporting to the Director of Creative & Brand Services, thisposition collaborates closely with editorial, digital, and socialmedia partners to ensure UTampa's visual identity is consistent,compelling, and authentic across platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Photography (Primary Responsibility)
Serve as UTampa's lead institutional photographer, producingeditorial- and campaign-quality imagery for the website, marketingcampaigns, digital advertising, social media, institutionalpublications, and print materials.
Photograph a wide range of subjects, including students,faculty, academics, campus life, athletics, arts performances,donor and advancement events, and executive leadership.
Provide creative direction during photo shoots to ensureimagery is authentic, inclusive, and aligned with UTampa's brandvoice and visual identity.
Plan and execute complex photography assignments, includinglocation scouting, lighting design, equipment setup, andcoordination with campus stakeholders and leadership.
Collaborate with the Director of Creative & Brand Servicesto maintain and evolve a recognizable university photography styleas part of UTampa's broader visual identity system.
Partner with the Editorial Director to supply high-qualityphotography for feature stories, the UTampa Journal, and otherflagship storytelling initiatives.
Edit and retouch photographs for print, web, and socialformats, ensuring technical quality, accessibility considerations,and brand compliance.
Manage photography assets within the university's digital assetmanagement system, including ingestion, tagging, archiving,retrieval, and usage tracking.
Provide photography coverage for high-visibility institutionalevents, including occasional evenings and weekends asrequired.
Video Production (Secondary / Value-Add)
Capture and edit short- and mid-form video content thatcomplements photography and supports institutional storytelling,campaigns, and digital initiatives.
Produce video assets such as event highlights, interviews,b-roll packages, and short features for use on the Universitywebsite, digital campaigns, and priority social platforms.
Support video coverage of major campus events and initiatives,ensuring alignment with UTampa's brand standards and visualidentity.
Collaborate with the Director of Digital Strategy andCommunications and Social Media Manager to ensure video assets areoptimized for accessibility, distribution, and multi-channelreuse.
Edit video content to professional standards, including basicmotion, audio cleanup, captioning, and formatting for differentplatforms.
Collaboration and Professional Practice
Work closely with creative, editorial, digital, and socialmedia teams to support integrated storytelling and campaignexecution.
Maintain university-issued photography and video equipment andrecommend upgrades or enhancements as needed.
Stay current on trends in higher education photography, visualstorytelling, and evolving video formats and technologies.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Photography, Visual Communications, MediaProduction, or a related field-or equivalent professionalexperience.
Minimum of 5 years of professional photography experience,preferably in a marketing, agency, or higher-educationenvironment.
Strong portfolio demonstrating excellence in portrait,editorial, and event photography.
Advanced proficiency with DSLR and/or mirrorless camerasystems, studio and on-location lighting, and professionalphotography equipment.
Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Lightroomand Photoshop.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meetdeadlines, and collaborate effectively with diversestakeholders.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, includingcomfort working with senior leaders and directing subjects duringshoots.
Preferred / Bonus Qualifications
Experience capturing and editing short- and mid-form videocontent using tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, orequivalent.
Experience preparing video content for web, digital campaigns,and social platforms.
Familiarity with digital asset management systems (e.g., Canto,PhotoShelter, Mediagraph).
Experience with accessibility best practices for visual andvideo content.
FAA Part 107 drone certification or willingness to pursuelicensure.
