Basic Function

Responsibility for all pilot and process engineering, procedures and requirements. Also manages the Tool and Tech shops.

Responsibilities

  • Complete technical review assessments on incoming project opportunities.
  • Oversee engineering projects.
  • Provide technical assistance to engineers when needed.
  • Provide thorough review of authored manufacturing procedures and filling procedures for final approval.
  • Evaluate, analyze, and recommend products, designs, and cost improvements to enhance the competitive position of the company.
  • Analyze data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Review customer specifications and requirements and meet with customers to implement them.
  • Act as primary technical contact to customers when needed.
  • Make necessary adjustments on pilot batches to ensure good product.
  • Identify and interpret variations in product, equipment or procedures which may affect results.
  • Set up standard laboratory equipment, run testing, obtain results, and accurately record results.
  • Contribute suggestions for improving laboratory methods and procedures.
  • Help streamline communication between all engineering groups, PE, R&D, and operations.
  • Be familiar with functions and operation of all laboratory and production equipment in area of responsibility.
  • Work with manufacturing and production personnel on problem products when assigned, record and report data.
  • Assist in the formula input system for assigned area and implement batch pack.
  • Have a good working knowledge of manufacturing and production procedures and G.M.P.’s.
  • Exhibit safe work habits at all times.
  • Conduct detailed safety assessments on new formulas / new business.
  • Have good knowledge of raw material, chemical use in products.
  • Communicate with production supervisors on acceptability of goods produced to minimize defects.
  • Communicate with customers and vendors regarding quality problems.
  • Coordinate work of the Machine Shop & Tech Shop to ensure work is completed on schedule.
  • Oversee Tech Shop projects, assignment of projects and timing of projects.
  • Be experienced and knowledgeable in tooling and parts for use on plant machinery, metal working machines, precision measuring tools, and mechanical drafting.
  • Recommend or initiate personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, and hiring for engineering departments.
  • Be knowledgeable of the expertise of employees in the department and use best skills.
  • Estimate materials and labor costs for billing purposes.
  • Continuously work to increase department efficiency.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree or 10 years technical experience in engineering or chemistry.
  • 5–8 years of manufacturing plant experience, preferably in the cosmetic industry.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good public relations skills for interfacing with customers and outside plant vendors.
  • Knowledge of G.M.P.’s, environmental, safety, and QC procedures.
