Local News Producer

at NBC5/WPTZ, the NBC affiliate in South Burlington, VT, creates meaningful and memorable newscasts. This role requires creative vision, decision‑making, effective communication, winning the big story, owning breaking news, managing weather elements, and ensuring accuracy. The producer reports to the Assistant News Director.
Responsibilities

Select, research, and write content for live newscasts to make the newscast an "experience" for viewers
Work with and guide reporters in story production
Coordinate creative vision with the team of anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photographers, editors, and production staff
Produce assigned newscasts, breaking news and weather events
Live timing newscasts
Requirements

Professional or college producing experience
Experience working in a newsroom
Writing and copy‑editing skills
Coordinate several crews and responsibilities simultaneously
Summarizing information into easy‑to‑understand components
Creative presentation style and ability to showcase all resources and elements
Highest journalistic integrity and ethical standards
Availability for holidays, shifts including nights, weekends, overnights and flexibility for breaking news
Related military experience will be considered
In‑person attendance required
Salary

The estimated base salary for this role is $42,000. The actual base pay offered depends on factors such as transferable skills, work experience, business needs, market demands, geographic location, and other factors permitted by law. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
