Newsweek reaches 100 million people each month with thought‑provoking news, opinion, images, graphics, and video delivered across a dozen print and digital platforms. Newsweek is seeking a Video News Producer to deliver high‑quality, timely, and platform‑optimized video and visual storytelling that strengthens journalism and drives audience engagement. This role is central to how we present news—treating visuals as a core editorial component, not a supplement.

Key Responsibilities
Visual Storytelling (Core Responsibility)
Identify, create, or source high‑impact visuals (video, stills, graphics, data visuals) that add clear editorial value to Newsweek journalism
Anticipate visual needs for major, developing, and breaking stories
Ensure visuals enhance storytelling and contribute meaningfully to audience engagement and dwell time
Breaking News & Video Monitoring
Continuously monitor news developments, video agency feeds (e.g. AP, Storyful, C‑SPAN, government feeds), and social platforms
Quickly source, produce, and publish relevant video content for breaking and trending stories
Ensure all assets are correctly ingested, labeled, and positioned effectively in the CMS and across platforms
Tailor video content for each platform (CMS, social channels, YouTube), ensuring optimal format, pacing, and length
Select the most effective storytelling format for each story (e.g. reporter‑led, voiceover, caption‑led, sound‑on‑tape, VO‑only)
Contribute to newsroom goals around audience engagement, including improving reader/viewer dwell time
Work closely with Newsweek’s newsdesk, social, and editorial teams to align on priorities and identify opportunities for video‑led storytelling
Collaborate constructively with reporters and editors throughout the production process
Communicate clearly across shifts to maintain continuity, especially during breaking news
Workflow & Asset Management
Maintain well‑organised assets and clear production workflows
Provide detailed handover notes to ensure seamless continuity between producers and shifts
Use AI and production tools appropriately to improve speed, efficiency, and output quality
Stay informed about emerging tools and workflows and contribute to continuous improvement of visual storytelling
Requirements
Strong editorial judgment and a clear understanding of how visuals enhance journalism
Interest in US news is a must
2‑5 years of experience producing video content in a fast‑paced newsroom or digital media environment
Ability to respond quickly and accurately to breaking news
Proven ability to optimise content for different platforms
