About the Role

Associate Acquisitions Editor in a leading global trade book publishing team, responsible for acquiring 16‑20 books per year and managing a profitable list focused on business, entrepreneurship, and self‑improvement topics.

Job Responsibilities

  • Signs a minimum of 16 books per year—primarily new authors—ensuring each project meets profit goals.
  • Refines overall strategy by identifying new sub‑areas, conducting market research, monitoring sales, and analyzing sales channels.
  • Champions projects throughout the publication lifecycle, developing and articulating visions for each project and collaborating with production, marketing and other teams.
  • Communicates effectively and diplomatically to propose and implement solutions that keep titles on track.
  • Manages project schedules, follows up on deliverables, handles author queries, and troubleshoots as necessary.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with authors, vendors, and agents through networking and meetings.
  • Explains to authors their role in marketing, sales and success of their titles.
  • Meets established goals for growth and profit.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of experience in publishing, specifically with book acquisitions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience or interest in business, entrepreneurship and/or wellness subject areas.
  • Demonstrated mastery of publishing systems, cycles and activities.
  • Ability to assess potential authors and projects, identify the right projects and shape them for an audience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, persuasive yet tactful.
  • Strong negotiation skills for contracts, schedules and other obligations.
  • Project management skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks, with strong attention to deadlines.
  • Ability to build and manage relationships with authors and team members.
  • Self‑motivated, flexible, curious, energetic and outgoing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience at a trade publisher.
  • Knowledge of AI tools.
  • Ability to apply financial understanding of publishing to overall strategy.

Salary Range: 58,400 USD to 81,733 USD
