About The Team
Like every team at OpenAI, the Marketing team contributes to our broader mission of ensuring responsible and widespread adoption of AI. With that aim in mind, we are responsible for developing and executing strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and usage for OpenAI’s products and platform amongst our core audiences. We take a data-driven approach to understand our customers' needs and challenges, ensuring that their voices are reflected in product development and messaging. We then partner closely with product, engineering, developer relations, comms, and sales teams to create a cohesive customer experience across all our channels. Our focus extends beyond just promoting product features; we aim to provide valuable insights and resources that help our users make the most out of AI technologies.
About The Role
As the Startup Field Marketing Lead, you will own and scale OpenAI’s global field marketing strategy for startups—to design and execute high-impact programs that drive awareness, adoption, and long‑term relationships with the next generation of AI‑native companies. This is a highly cross‑functional role focused on flagship experiences and ecosystem presence. You will lead the strategy and execution behind OpenAI’s most important startup‑facing moments—such as DevDay, Founder Days, and global builder programs—while building a repeatable, high‑quality field marketing engine that scales internationally. You’ll work closely with GTM, product, partnerships, comms, and operations to ensure OpenAI shows up as the platform of choice for founders—both through owned events and key ecosystem touchpoints. This role requires strong strategic thinking, operational rigor, and the ability to deliver exceptional experiences for highly technical audiences. This role is based in San Francisco. Our team is in‑office 3‑4 days/week.
In This Role, You Will
- Influence and own the strategy, planning, and execution of OpenAI’s flagship startup events, including DevDay, Founder Days, and scaled builder programs.
- Drive end‑to‑end event execution, including audience strategy, programming, content, logistics, and post‑event follow‑through.
- Collaborate with operations teams to build scalable systems, processes, and tooling to support global program execution.
- Identify and activate high‑leverage ecosystem opportunities (conferences, VC partnerships, builder communities) to expand OpenAI’s reach.
- Define and track success metrics across programs—including pipeline, adoption, and engagement—using insights to continuously improve impact.
- Serve as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders and external partners, ensuring strong alignment and execution across initiatives.
You Might Thrive In This Role If You Have
- 8‑10+ years of experience in field marketing, product marketing, or integrated marketing in B2B space, preferably working with startups and developers.
- Proven experience operating as a senior individual contributor, owning large‑scale programs end‑to‑end with minimal oversight.
- Data‑driven approach to decision‑making, with experience measuring ROI, pipeline impact, and program performance.
- Highly operational with the ability to manage complex programs and multiple stakeholders simultaneously.
- Passion for AI and strong interest in the startup ecosystem – experience using Codex is a strong plus.
Why This Role
This role sits at the center of how OpenAI engages with the world’s most ambitious builders. You’ll shape the moments that define how founders experience our platform—bringing together product, community, and storytelling to drive real adoption and long‑term impact. If you’re excited about building world‑class programs, operating at global scale, and working at the frontier of AI, we’d love to hear from you.
