Responsibilities
- Serves as a team leader, assigning work and coaching team members and reporting to management on their performance.
- Writes and produces news and feature content and programming as assigned for use in broadcasts, web and social media.
- During programs, serves as line producer, managing the timing and order of stories included in broadcasts.
- Conducts and writes up interviews for inclusion in assigned stories.
- Adapts and/or translates content produced in English into native language, as assigned.
- Versions content produced in native language into English for distribution, as assigned.
- Participates in the creation and development of regularly scheduled or special radio and/or TV programs and/or web and social media sections, as assigned.
- Voices material for/during broadcasts as assigned, including material prepared by others.
- Contributes to production elements of programs and content for broadcast and/or web and social media, including fine editing of taped material, as assigned.
- Edits and approves copy and content prepared or written by others for broadcast and/or publication for inclusion in assigned stories.
- Performs technical functions, including operation of equipment, as assigned.
- Contributes to teamwork, facilitating tasks of teammates, as needed.
- Meets VOA standards for productivity, quality, and meeting deadlines.
- Serves as videographer/reporter, as assigned.
- Serves as anchor/program host, as assigned.
- Makes suggestions about policy and workflow improvements.
- Works independently or as a member of a team.
- Logs and conducts data entry and other functions connected with VOA’s digital asset management system.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Fluency in target language (written and spoken) and deep knowledge of the target area, plus the ability to adapt stories into English within the time assigned.
- Specialized knowledge, including formal education in a field desired by VOA, regularly demonstrated through performance of duties.
- All personal service contractors must pass a thorough background check.
- U.S. citizen required.
