Position Overview
The Technical Manager (Head of Video) will have a very strong technical background in the Audio Visual Industry with an expert level skill set and experience in a specific discipline such as Audio, Video, Lighting, Rigging or Power Distribution; this position must be the subject matter expert for their discipline. Sitting within the Production function, the Technical Manager manages all aspects of that discipline as it pertains to event pre-planning, on-site management, equipment maintenance and post show activities. Must have the ability to operate/trouble‑shoot high‑end equipment and have familiarity with major brands of audio‑visual systems and components in a large venue situation. The Technical Manager will be the key resource of information for the Production team; will interface with the warehouse leads helping to design systems; and be the project manager for large event systems. The Technical Manager is required to mentor and develop the technicians. Also where appropriate the Technical Manager will negotiate with supply chains and drive innovation with our product portfolio. On a project by project basis the Technical Manager will maximise profitability by using our own equipment and labour. The Technical Manager may or may not manage a team of Technical Specialists and will report to the Director, Project Management or General Manager, UAE as appropriate.

Key Job Responsibilities
Event Pre-planning

Partner with the Senior Project Managers, Project Managers and end client to design, pre‑plan and manage all aspects of their expertise or discipline.

Drive Results

- Complete necessary technical drawings, production plans, labour needs, budgets, equipment selection, and interfaces with the warehouse leads, and sub rentals.

- Assist and support the other departments as necessary by making recommendations on technology, processes, and methodologies.

On-site Management / Operation

Delivers World Class Service

– ensuring their discipline meets or exceeds the client’s needs by managing the production plan, budget, and Encore production/safety standards.

Do the Right Thing

- Set and properly test technical components.

Operate designated equipment for the event, as needed.

Provides leadership to their assigned crew, including internal and external team members.

At all times, the Technical Manager is expected to abide with all health and safety requirements to company and international standards; to ensure that all team members and subcontractors adhere to the same; and to recommend areas of improvement to the HSE Manager.

Post-show Management

Responsible for post-show management to include: final labour, time sheets, expenses, sub rentals, and any equipment maintenance needs.

Complete reporting information and feedback from team to the Senior Project Managers and Project Managers for the post show jot form to document for client’s future events.

Customer Service

Provides excellent service and strive to exceed the expectations and needs of internal and external customers.

Meets with clients on site as necessary to ensure that their needs are met and the equipment setup is working properly.

Job Qualifications

BA/BS Degreed or equivalent experience

5+ years of live large venue audio visual

5+ years of knowledge of Audio Visual and expert level technical skill set in a discipline

2+ years crew lead experience (not necessarily direct reports)

Strong customer service skills

Excellent organisation skills

Advanced problem solving skills

Strong written and oral communications skills

Ability to travel up to 75%
