Job description
CESOSS is looking for a qualified work‑study student who can assist in all aspects of Communications & Marketing, including material distribution, creating, editing, and publishing our newsletter, creating and disseminating event information, managing our database, and coordinating marketing events. Responsible for researching, writing, and editing stories for La Voz, writing press releases, as well as other projects as assigned.
Responsibilities
Good communication skills to generate stories of interest to the community of the South Valley
Researching information for features and articles
Verifying information and interviewing sources
Writing, editing, proofreading, and subbing text
Attending relevant events, fairs, and conferences
Creating and maintaining a network of contacts
Meeting and liaising with other staff including the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Advisors, and the coordinators
Staying up‑to‑date with privacy, defamation, and contempt law
Complying with industry and ethical guidelines
May work remotely.
Must be willing to conduct interviews in person or via Zoom.
Knowledge of social media outlets (Facebook, Instagram, and some knowledge of web systems)
10–20 hours a week
Qualifications
Must have excellent writing and editing skills, be creative, flexible, extremely detail‑oriented, and self‑directed. The applicant must have experience with editing software, Canva, and experience managing social media.
Junior or Senior
Journalism, Marketing, English, or Media Studies student preferred.
Must be work‑study qualified
Key skills: detailed oriented, community‑oriented, excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, IT and social media skills, bilingual: English and Spanish
MUST have a Work‑Study Award.
