About the Position
Reporting to the Director of Public Relations, with indirect reporting into the Chief Communications Officer and the Head of Public Relations, the Media Credentials Coordinator will temporarily join the department for the TCS New York City Marathon, from July through early November. The role will involve managing media credentials for the event, reviewing applications and coverage requests from over 300 journalists across local, national, and international outlets, and supporting other media operations as needed.
Job Responsibilities
Serve as main media credential point of contact for the marathon, covering the entire process from application to distribution and onsite support.
Lead the development and execution of the media credentials application, working closely with the security/credentials team to ensure the platform is accurate, efficient, and user‑friendly, and draft all application copy and instructions.
Develop comprehensive media communications and materials that outline the credentials process and set expectations for onsite coverage.
Maintain a detailed tracking system for incoming applications, research relevant background information, and make informed recommendations regarding approvals, denials, and access zones.
Use judgment to identify non‑media credential requests and pass them to the relevant NYRR teams.
Oversee the credential distribution process during race week, managing a support team of two to three people to ensure smooth pick‑up operations onsite.
Assist with in‑person/on‑site media operations during the New Balance 5th Avenue Mile and marathon race day, including media check‑in, interview staffing, photo/video coordination, and hospitality support.
Job Requirements
Experience in media relations, large‑scale events, and/or credentialing is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in English, Public Relations, communications, journalism, or a related field preferred.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Collaborator with strong project management skills.
Self‑motivated with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and customer service orientation.
Excellent creative and critical thinking skills.
Strong ability to multitask, meet tight deadlines, think clearly under pressure, and exercise good judgment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Experience with the credentials platform WRSTBND is a plus.

Salary: $30/hour (Overtime Eligible).
