Position Purpose:
The Membership Manager reports to the Director of Institutional Advancement and is responsible for the cultivation, acquisition, renewal, retention and stewardship of the Museum’s General, Support Group, and Circle Members. The Membership Manager is responsible for tracking goals, developing creative member cultivation, and solicitation and stewardship strategies.
Focus on retention of membership and membership growth strategies
Promote membership benefits of ticketed exhibitions
Increase awareness of membership program through passive channels
Track success of campaigns and gather data about our members and what they want from membership
Explore potential collaborations with local businesses
Train museum staff to promote and sell memberships to visitors
Manage Support Group events including all administrative and communication duties
Manage the Advancement email
Analyze membership historical data and demographics to identify potential target audiences for membership expansion
Collaborate with the marketing team to promote Support Group events and the Curatorial team to highlight new exhibitions and exclusive previews for members
Collaborate with other departments to create additional member-exclusive programming and benefits
Plan, schedule, and execute membership appreciation events and other special benefits to recognize and thank loyal members
Develop strategies to engage members during the holiday season, such as a membership gift campaign, exclusive shopping events, and discounts at the Museum Store
Develop strategies to increase member referrals and word of mouth promotions
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Three to five years of relevant career experience
Customer service mindset and problem solving orientation
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work well in a team environment
About the Museum
Founded in 1951, the Birmingham Museum of Art is deeply invested in education and engagement and serves as a resource for communities locally, nationally, and internationally. It houses one of the finest collections in the Southeast of the United States. More than 27,000 objects displayed and housed within the Museum represent a rich panorama of cultures, including those from Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Africa, including work by both Pre-Columbian and Native North American artists. Highlights include the Museum’s collection of the arts of Asia, Vietnamese ceramics, the Kress collection of Renaissance and Baroque paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts from the late 13th century to the 1750s, and the Museum’s world-renowned collection of Wedgwood, the largest outside of England.
