Kelly Government Solutions is seeking a Science Writer (Infectious Diseases) to support the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at NIH in Bethesda, MD. The role involves on-site work on the NIH Campus in Bethesda, MD with eligibility for telework.


KEY TASKS

(1) Provide science writing support to the Policy, Planning and Evaluation Branch within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to develop documents and facilitate responses to requests for review of research policies, agency plans, and federal research regulations

(2) Coordinate with NIAID divisions for document reviews and comments in an effort to development Institute-level responses.

(3) Perform literature reviews of scientific and technical literature and prepare summaries and reports for distribution among research and other staff members.

(4) Translate scientific language and communicate technical ideas to a general audience in plain language, focusing on concepts related to infectious and immune-mediated diseases

(5) Provide expert advice and consultation to staff on issues related to scientific and programmatic written articles.

(6) Provide expert advice for general health and science communications activities that involve content creation for health communication and outreach projects, scientific and technical publications, promotional materials, correspondence, and online events.

(7) Research, write and edit scientific and technical information in a variety of formats, including articles, blog posts, factsheets, one-pagers, brochures, policy papers, presentations and speeches, workshop summaries, reports, briefing materials, press releases, content for digital media in online and print format

(8) Advise executives and program managers on written materials to be developed and present strategies for maximizing impact and performance toward goas and objectives; organize and upload information to repositories and integrate local databases with enterprise-level software and applications

(9) Critically review draft documents, synthesize comments, and incorporate appropriate comments from other reviewers into successive drafts to prepare final documents.

(10) Proofread all documents (drafts and final forms) for scientific and technical accuracy and completeness prior to submitting them for review and approval or acceptance.

(11) Design and maintain templates and detailed usage instructions for preparing common documentation, such as posters, presentations, reports, proposals, abstracts, etc.


REQUIREMENTS

(1) Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, or related discipline with minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.

(2) Understanding of technical scientific terms and concepts related to infectious and immune-mediated diseases, microbiology and/or immunology

(3) Experience communicating technical ideas to a general audience and translating scientific language into plain language

(4) Experience writing for public, media, and health professional audiences, which includes organizing and gathering information related to the development of reports, briefings, and media outreach.

(5) Demonstrate experience preparing scientific reports and summaries as well as proofreading and editing.

(6) Knowledge of 508c compliance and federally mandated accessibility requirements
