About the Role
The Company is in search of a Vice President, Advocacy to join its Advocacy & Programs Department. The successful candidate will serve as a senior advisor and strategist, with a focus on congressional, executive branch, and targeted state and local policymakers. This role involves leadership responsibilities, including managing a team, and requires a significant commitment to direct lobbying, relationship cultivation, and maintaining compliance with federal lobbying regulations. The VP will be expected to advance the organization's advocacy agenda through various means, including meetings, presentations, and interactions with external audiences. A deep commitment to civil rights, strategic management experience, and exceptional coalition and relationship-building skills are essential for this position.
Candidates for the Vice President, Advocacy role at the company should have a minimum of 10 years of federal lobbying and advocacy experience, with a preference for those with a background in nonprofits. A Bachelor's degree is required, and a Juris Doctorate is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in strategic management, a strong ability to navigate policy challenges, and a commitment to centering equity in all aspects of their work. Responsibilities also include supervising and managing staff, supporting the development of the Advocacy and Programs budget, and engaging in fundraising initiatives. The role demands excellent writing, editing, and research skills, as well as the ability to work with a diverse range of stakeholders to build support and consensus.
