Music Director

Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Holy Redeemer Catholic Church seeks a dedicated and faith-filled Music Director to lead and develop the parish music program in support of liturgical celebrations. The Music Director is responsible for planning, coordinating, and providing music that enhances worship and reflects the teachings, traditions, and liturgical norms of the Roman Catholic Church. This role collaborates closely with clergy, staff, and volunteers to foster a prayerful and engaging musical environment.
Job Responsibilities
Plan and provide music for weekend Masses, Holy Days, weddings, funerals, and special liturgies
Select liturgically appropriate music in accordance with Catholic guidelines
Direct and rehearse choirs, cantors, and musicians
Recruit, train, and support volunteer and paid musicians
Collaborate with clergy and liturgy team for seasonal and sacramental planning
Coordinate music schedules and ensure coverage for all liturgies
Maintain and oversee music library, instruments, and sound equipment
Work with couples and families to plan music for weddings and funerals
Ensure compliance with copyright licensing requirements
Foster active congregational participation in music and worship
Job Qualifications
Degree or equivalent experience in music, choral directing, or liturgy preferred. Proficiency in piano and/or organ required; vocal leadership skills strongly preferred. Knowledge of Catholic liturgy, music traditions, and seasonal requirements. Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and volunteers. Experience directing choirs or ensembles preferred. Commitment to supporting the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holy days. Completion of background screening and compliance with Archdiocese Prevent and Protect STL Safe Environment Program required.
