Media Coordinator

Reports To: Principal

Nature Of Work: To provide the leadership and instructional resources and services for implementation of a school library media program that serves as an integral part of a student centered educational process.
Education And Training: NC Professional Educators License area in Media Coordinator Master's Degree preferred
Term Of Employment: 10 months
Salary: State Salary Schedule
FLSA Status: Exempt
Performance Responsibilities:
Planning and Implementing for Teaching and Learning
Assessing learning and information needs of students and staff
Instructing students and staff in the effective use of the media center and its resources
Incorporating information literacy into day-to-day instruction
Providing leadership and support for establishing, promoting, and sustaining the effective use of information resources and technology tools
Fostering collaboration with teachers in their school community to facilitate the design, delivery, and assessment of instructional activities that promote learner competence and confidence with 21st Century skills
Collaborating with the Digital Learning and Teaching Facilitator to provide leadership in the school's use and delivery of instructional technology resources to enhance learning
Collaborating with teachers and other specialists to identify students' interests, learning styles, and unique instructional requirements and to design instructional strategies guided by universal design principles
Encouraging all learners to establish and maintain a positive digital footprint as they interact in web-enabled environments
Using a variety of instructional strategies, resources, and assessment tools to provide digital-age learning experiences
Modeling, promoting, and facilitating the seamless integration of information and technology tools and resources across all content areas
Supporting differentiation of instruction by choosing and modifying learning strategies, tools, and resources to meet the needs of all learners
Planning and Implementing for Information Access, Evaluation, and Use
Following a plan for personal professional development and actively seeking out opportunities to grow professionally
Developing a library collection that supports 21st Century teaching and learning, global awareness, and cultural understanding
Creating and maintaining an environment conducive to learning and collaboration
Working with the principal and school leadership team to provide flexible access to school library media center resources to accommodate individuals and groups simultaneously
Organizing school library media facilities and resources in a manner that supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and maximizes intellectual and physical access to resources
Encouraging the widest possible use of print and electronic resources and services--within the school library media center, throughout the school, and through remote access
Working cooperatively with other libraries and agencies to share resources that enhance teaching and learning
Adhering to and communicating copyright as well as other laws and guidelines pertaining to the distribution and ethical use of all resources
Advocating the principles of intellectual freedom
Planning and Implementing for Program Administration
Working with school staff to design and implement short- and long-range plans that ensure balance among all aspects of the school library media coordinator's role and responsibilities
Using data on student learning and achievement to improve their professional practice and future program planning
Continuously evaluating the library media collection, in collaboration with the Media and Technology Advisory Committee, to ensure that it is accurate, current, and meets teacher and student needs for recreational reading and curriculum-based materials in a variety of formats
Designing and participating in events that promote reading, digital citizenship, and other media center related programs
Playing a leading role in the school's budgetary process to ensure funding for the school library media program to support school-wide goals
Leading, in partnership with the Digital Learning and Teaching Facilitator, the Media and Technology Advisory Committee in effective decision making to promote the media and technology program
Interacting effectively with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community to promote and expand the school library media program
Preparing and submitting accurate reports as required
Adhering to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations
Carrying out non-instructional duties as assigned and/or as need is perceived
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged periods of time
Ability to reach with hands and arms routinely
Ability to bend, stoop, carry, push, or pull
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds routinely and 50 pounds occasionally
Must be able to facilitate the evacuation of students during emergency situations and/or drills
Must be able to visually, auditorily, and physically monitor student performance and conduct
