About this position
A Fiber Planner is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of optical fiber materials, including receiving, inventory control, production planning, staging, and issuing materials to manufacturing lines. This role ensures fiber is accurately accounted for in both physical inventory and system records, while supporting efficient production flow and minimizing material waste.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Receive incoming fiber materials into inventory and verify against purchase orders
Record and maintain accurate inventory transactions in the system
Close out purchase orders in the system once materials are received and verified
Translate production schedules into executable manufacturing jobs
Create and manage production orders within the system
Allocate, stage, and issue optical fiber to production lines based on job requirements
Physically deliver and issue materials to production areas as needed
Update the system in real time to reflect material movement and consumption
Prepare job packets, travelers, and production documentation
Monitor fiber utilization and optimize usage to reduce scrap and improve yield
Coordinate inventory transfers between warehouse, staging areas, and production floor
Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, reconciliation, and audits
Support production scheduling to ensure material availability and on‑time delivery
Collaborate with procurement, warehouse, and production teams
Identify and utilize available inventory, including WIP and aged materials
Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and operational procedures
Support continuous improvement initiatives in inventory accuracy and material flow
Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Manufacturing Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience preferred)
2-3+ years in materials management, inventory control, or production planning
Experience working with inventory systems or similar data tracking systems
Strong Excel and data management skills
Experience in manufacturing or warehouse environments
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in inventory transactions
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
Strong communication skills across warehouse, production, and procurement teams
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Works in a deadline‑driven production planning environment focused on on‑time delivery and schedule adherence
Collaborates with Production, Purchasing, Inventory, Quality, Engineering, and Sales in a fast‑paced environment
Demonstrates initiative to learn processes, systems, and scheduling methods to improve planning accuracy
Identifies and communicates production or material discrepancies for timely resolution
Uses planning systems and computer tools to manage schedules and analyze data
Applies sound judgment to execute scheduling decisions with limited supervision
Works in both office and manufacturing environments, including production floor exposure
Maintains high attention to detail in schedules, materials, and production data
Follows standardized procedures while adapting to changing priorities and demand
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Prolonged periods of computer‑based work require extended sitting
Occasional movement through warehouses and production areas
Frequent use of hands for computer use, data entry, and document handling
Regular verbal communication and ability to hear effectively in a work environment
Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs as needed
Visual acuity sufficient for reading documents, schedules, and digital systems
Exposure to moderate high noise levels in manufacturing and warehouse areas
Occasional exposure to non‑climate‑controlled environments, including heat and dust
