Responsibilities
Author and maintain S1000D data modules, data sets, and illustration references for versions 3.0 through 4.1.
Apply BREX rules and Customer Business decision templates to ensure compliance.
Review inbound supplier deliverables (data modules, illustrations, video/audio media) for S1000D compliance, completeness, and alignment with the Contract Data Requirements List.
Coordinate technical reviews with suppliers, issue non‑conformance notifications, and track issue resolution through the Supplier Management Portal.
Import validated supplier data into internal authoring environments (e.g., Arbortext, Contenta) while maintaining a full audit‑trail.
Produce supporting narrative, procedural, and maintenance instructions that complement S1000D modules, adhering to business decisions and customer specifications.
Generate Statements of Work for outsourced authoring tasks, defining scope, deliverables, schedule, and quality metrics.
Develop and maintain delivery schedules for emerging projects and synchronize authoring milestones with overall system development timelines.
Participate in Integrated Product Team (IPT) meetings, offering status updates, risk assessments, and technical clarifications.
Compile QCPC metrics for completed publications, conduct root‑cause analyses, and produce corrective‑action reports.
Support internal and external AS9100 audits by supplying necessary documentation and evidence of compliance.
Contribute to process‑improvement initiatives that boost authoring efficiency, promote data reuse, and strengthen supplier collaboration.
Collaborate with program managers, contracts, finance, engineering, and external customers to clarify requirements, resolve data inconsistencies, and support cost‑to‑price analyses.
Serve as the go‑to S1000D expert, advising cross‑functional teams on best‑practice authoring, tooling, and optimal data‑management strategies.
Qualifications
Associate‑level degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
2–4 years of hands‑on technical authoring experience, preferably in aerospace, defense, or other high‑reliability industries.
Experience with structured authoring standards such as S1000D or MIL‑STD‑40051.
Proficiency in authoring suites such as Arbortext, Content@, and Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs).
Familiarity with version‑control or content‑management systems (e.g., SharePoint, FileNet).
Working knowledge of S1000D (v3.0‑4.1), MIL‑STD‑81927AS, MIL‑STD‑40051, and AS9100 quality‑system requirements.
Strong technical literacy: ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and design notices, and navigate complex technical data sets.
Proven ability to conduct root‑cause analysis, generate corrective‑action reports, and reconcile data inconsistencies.
Excellent written and oral communication skills; capable of producing clear, concise documentation and delivering technical briefings.
Experience managing multiple concurrent authoring tasks, tracking milestones, and meeting delivery schedules; familiarity with IPT meeting formats is beneficial.
Effective collaboration and interpersonal skills: comfortable interfacing with program managers, contracts, finance, engineering, and suppliers, and facilitating cross‑functional teamwork.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic data‑analysis tools.
