OverviewScientific Publications Administrator (Part-Time)The American Museum of Natural History is a leading scientific and cultural institution with a mission to discover, interpret, and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world, and the universe through scientific research, education, and exhibition.ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with the Chair of the Committee of Editors and Associate Editors of the Museum's Scientific Publications Committee, the Managing Editor of Scientific Publications, and with authors and reviewers of manuscripts submitted for peer review and consideration for publication in the series (American Museum Novitates, Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History, and Anthropological Papers of the American Museum of Natural History).Maintain clear and professional communication with authors, reviewers, and editors throughout the peer review process.Check manuscripts for compliance with submission guidelines after receipt, acknowledge receipt, confirm details, and communicate next steps to authors.Send manuscripts for review, follow up on reviews, process incoming reviews, and contact additional or replacement reviewers as needed after consultation with editors.Prepare review documents to maintain reviewer anonymity (if requested) before providing reviews and/or marked-up manuscripts to editors.Coordinate manuscript revision requests between editors, authors, and reviewers as needed.Organize and maintain manuscript files and correspondence in a logical, online-accessible file management system to track the status of manuscripts and reviews toward publication.Maintain a Standard Operating Procedures document for the peer review process, outlining each step and best practices; draft template emails for common communications (e.g., reviewer invitations, reminders, author notifications) as needed.Compile contact lists for current authors and reviewers as necessary.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in the sciences or another related field.Experience with project management and/or handling manuscripts or similar documents in a publishing context.Strong software skills, including proficiency in handling and distributing electronic documents in a variety of formats, including graphics files.Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage and maintain an orderly and accessible system of documents.Effective and tactful interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally in writing and be firm and persuasive when required.Focus on professionalism and integrity, including the ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality.Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree or higher in the natural sciences.Physical DemandsMust be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.Must be able to move about the Museum campus.Compensation and ScheduleCategory: Part-TimeTotal Number of Scheduled Hours Per Pay Period: 40Union Status: Non-UnionFLSA: Non-ExemptSalary range: $31.00/hour – $33.00/hour (expected salary minimum $31.00/hour, maximum $33.00/hour)EEO StatementThe American Museum of Natural History is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
