Overview

9NEWS (KUSA), the TEGNA-owned powerhouse in Denver, Colorado, is looking for a bold, creative, and collaborative Dayside Executive Producer to lead our newsroom’s editorial direction during the early evening hours for our #1 newscasts. This leader will serve as the editorial and strategic content driver for dayside coverage — responsible for delivering impactful journalism across broadcast, streaming, digital, and social platforms.

We’re seeking someone who thrives in breaking news, inspires innovation, embraces accountability journalism, and motivates a team to deliver content that is urgent, relevant, and connects with audiences in meaningful ways.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the dayside editorial team.
  • Own the editorial vision and execution of content across all platforms during the dayside shift.
  • Drive strong, urgent, and enterprising coverage for late newscasts and digital platforms, ensuring consistency in tone, accuracy, and storytelling.
  • Guide and support the team in breaking news situations with smart, real-time decisions that maximize audience reach and impact.
  • Collaborate closely with story desk editors to ensure content is optimized for web, app, social, and OTT audiences.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and inclusiveness, encouraging creativity, audience-first thinking, and ethical journalism.
  • Participate in daily editorial meetings and coordinate with dayside leaders for effective story handoffs and planning.
  • Coach team members in developing engaging content, creative writing, and best practices for storytelling across formats.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in a professional newsroom, with demonstrated success in both producing and digital content strategy.
  • 2+ years in a newsroom leadership role strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage and coach a team in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • A deep understanding of the content needs of diverse audiences on multiple platforms — including linear, digital, and social.
  • Strong editorial judgment and ability to lead during major news events.
  • Passion for innovation, storytelling, and community-centered journalism.
  • Availability to work nights, holidays, and weekends as needed.

Pay Range
