Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Lead AV Technician to oversee the installation, configuration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of professional audio-visual systems for large-scale commercial construction projects. This role is responsible for leading field installation teams, ensuring quality control, maintaining project schedules, and delivering fully integrated AV solutions. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with commercial AV technologies, integrated control systems, DSP platforms, low-voltage infrastructure, and system commissioning. This position requires a balance of technical expertise, leadership, and communication skills to support successful project execution from installation through final system verification.
Job Responsibilities
Lead AV installation crews on commercial construction projects and ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and according to project specifications.
Install, configure, and commission commercial AV systems, including control systems, displays, projectors, DSPs, amplifiers, microphones, sound masking systems, and related infrastructure.
Program, test, and troubleshoot integrated AV solutions utilizing platforms such as Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Q-SYS, AMX, and Dante-enabled systems.
Build and organize equipment racks, including wiring, labeling, termination, and cable management.
Install, terminate, and test low-voltage cabling, including CAT5e, CAT6, coaxial, RG6, HD-SDI, SDI, XLR, RCA, and 18/2 cabling.
Install and maintain cable pathways, including J-hooks, D-rings, ladder racks, and other cable support systems.
Perform system commissioning activities, including device startup, DSP tuning, control system testing, and final system verification.
Troubleshoot and resolve audio, video, control, networking, and system integration issues.
Interpret blueprints, schematics, riser diagrams, and project documentation to execute installations accurately.
Coordinate daily activities with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and other trades.
Maintain project documentation and provide regular status updates on installation progress.
Mentor and train junior technicians while promoting adherence to safety standards and installation best practices.
Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure installations meet industry standards and project requirements.
Job Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required.
Associate degree or technical training in Audio Visual Technology, Electronics, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of commercial AV installation experience required.
Minimum of 1 year of experience leading or supervising AV installation teams required.
Hands-on experience with commercial AV control and DSP platforms, including Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Q-SYS, and AMX.
Experience with Dante audio networking required.
Strong knowledge of signal flow, AV networking, integrated control systems, and commercial AV infrastructure.
Experience building equipment racks, performing system wiring, labeling, and cable management.
Proficiency installing and terminating low-voltage cabling, including CAT5e, CAT6, coaxial, RG6, HD-SDI, SDI, XLR, RCA, and 18/2 cabling.
Experience installing cable pathways and support systems, including J-hooks, D-rings, and ladder racks.
Ability to commission, test, and troubleshoot integrated AV systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, riser diagrams, and project documentation.
Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented construction environment.
Ability to climb ladders, work on lifts, work in confined spaces, and safely lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
Must possess and maintain basic hand tools required for installation work.
OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 certification preferred.
Avixa CTS certification required; CTS-I or CTS-D certification strongly preferred.
Work Experience
Experience leading field installation teams on commercial AV construction projects.
Experience installing and commissioning commercial AV systems in corporate, retail, educational, industrial, and healthcare environments.
Experience troubleshooting integrated audio, video, control, and networked AV systems.
Experience coordinating installation activities within active construction environments and collaborating with multiple trades.

Fully onsite position.
Projects are located throughout the local metro area.
Typical schedule begins at 7:00 AM.
Expected work schedule is approximately 40 to 45 hours per week.
Work is performed primarily in commercial construction environments, including corporate, retail, educational, industrial, and healthcare facilities.
Daily responsibilities include leading field crews, coordinating with project stakeholders and other trades, overseeing installations, performing system commissioning, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring quality control throughout all phases of project execution.
