Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated individual with dynamic communication skills to serve as Communications Strategist. In this position, you will develop and execute internal and retailer communications, employee engagement projects, and strategic communications for multichannel audiences. You will measure, evaluate, and report on communication effectiveness, manage content creation, and coordinate multimedia production to promote the Lottery’s story and programs.

Support the Director of Public Affairs and Communications in proactive efforts to advance the mission, promote the Lottery, and build relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally. Provide leadership on projects undertaken by Communications Specialists 1 and 2 and support strategic initiatives for key topics, including winners, beneficiaries, responsible gambling, and external relations.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement an employee communications plan with the Director of Public Affairs and Communications to educate, enlighten, and engage employees through multiple channels, supporting a positive workplace culture, retention, and recruitment in collaboration with Human Resources.

Support marketing and sales efforts with engaging communications and events to promote retailer products, programs, and prizes.

Cultivate and share lottery winners and beneficiary stories through multiple communication channels to targeted audiences.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of communication experience, including program and time‑management skills to ensure multiple projects meet deadlines.

Experience developing, monitoring, maintaining, and tracking information received through multiple channels using various tools.

Strong writing and editing skills for a variety of communications, including plans, key messages, employee announcements, newsletters, speeches, reports, blogs, news releases, presentations, and more.

Experience developing and executing employee and internal communication strategies.

Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Public Administration, or related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Understanding of the operations, administration, structure, and governance of the MN Lottery.

Expertise in analyzing and presenting data using spreadsheets, statistics, word processing, and graphics software.

Team lead experience.

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.

Additional Requirements

Successful completion of a criminal background check, fingerprint check, employment reference checks, and State of Minnesota records check.

Prohibited convictions: felony, fraud or misrepresentation within five years, or gambling‑related offense.

Veteran Eligibility
RECENTLY SEPARATED VETERANS (RSV) : Effective July 1, 2009. Top five RSV applicants who meet qualifications may be granted an interview under state legislation. Full criteria and submission of DD‑214 form required by closing date.
