Olgoonik Video And Multimedia Project Producer

The contractor shall support the OLPA by writing treatments and scripts, including performing the requisite research and interviews to accomplish these tasks. While an on-site contractor may serve as the lead writer on a given project, they will most often coordinate with other OLPA and NSF staff, university researchers and public information officers, etc. Scripts will call for clearly communicating science news, concepts, NSF programs and initiatives, and more, through video in a compelling, creative, easy-to-understand manner, including to various age groups and audiences (potentially including children) and in various styles (potentially including humor). In most cases, scripts will be less than four minutes in length, often significantly less.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
Primary responsibilities include:
Understanding OLPA strategic communication objectives and conceiving and recommending appropriate productions.
Providing advice on effective media use for communicating messages to intended audiences.
Ensuring all products for internal and external use follow all NSF branding guidelines and are reviewed by NSF branding team.
Working with OLPA teams to plan and develop video programs by transforming communications campaigns/ideas and complex science into production ideas requiring the determination of format, approach, content, and level of presentation.
Conducting research to identify potential sources for specific visuals and audio and video clips and determine their availability from outside sources.
Coordinating with scientists, engineers, OLPA staff and others to obtain needed materials and to coordinate various aspects of productions.
Serving as a multimedia team representative on inter-team projects.
Handling internal and external requests for information, footage and finished products, including corresponding with requestors and providing files.
Creating and using spreadsheets to assist team in tracking and filling requests.
Performing archiving and other administrative, coordinating and lower-level technical support duties.
Using digital asset management systems to maintain and archive images/multimedia and permission documents.
Performing operator-level maintenance on video production and post-production equipment, e.g., cleaning, replacing cables, batteries, lamps, etc.
Performing file maintenance and archiving functions on editing system and portable hard drives.
Performing other production management and production systems management as requested to maintain orderly ongoing projects and an orderly production facility.
While it is anticipated that the contractor's project manager will be offsite, one member of the contractor's on-site team shall, in addition to their production/post-production duties:
Serve in the role of on-site production manager in coordination with the NSF multimedia team leader. The production manager will assign and monitor progress of all productions to assure quality and timely delivery, and will perform studio management, scheduling and logistical coordination services.
Help maintain liaison between NSF, scientists and production partners on specific projects at various phases of production.
Support partnerships, collaborations, and special projects established through Memorandums of Understanding or other formal mechanisms.
Explore and assess potential partnership and collaboration opportunities with external entities.
Coordinate script and rough-cut reviews and approvals with NSF directorates and appropriate researchers.
Support content distribution efforts, including distribution tracking and reporting.
Write related articles and secure photographs for accompanying web materials on the NSF website and partner platforms.
Coordinate with collaborators to obtain and manage copies of all raw footage created.
Create and maintain an electronic archive of all completed products and associated assets.
Perform additional related duties as required to support partnership activities.
Adapt roles and responsibilities based on the specific partnership model, with the contractor or partner entity assuming varying levels of responsibility.
Support a flexible combination of production and post-production tasks, depending on project needs and partner arrangements.
Supervisory responsibilities include managing and guiding video teams of 3 or more in developing and creating video/multimedia segments, programs and series in a variety of scales and styles.
Education and/or experience required:
Must have a minimum of 10 years' experience as a video and multimedia project producer.
Translating complex topics into compelling videos for a variety of audiences.
Developing strategic marketing plans for video and multimedia projects including broadcast and web-based media entities, partners, collaborators, distributors and other organizations.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities preferred:
Conducting and editing interviews.
On-camera work.
Scriptwriting in a variety of styles.
Creative problem-solving.

Security clearance: Must be able to pass Public Trust background investigation.
