Position Overview

Encounter Church Atlanta is seeking a skilled Sound Tech Engineer to provide professional audio services for Sunday worship services, special events, and ministry gatherings. This is an independent contractor position compensated on a project/per-service basis. The ideal candidate brings technical excellence and a heart for ministry, understanding that quality sound is a form of service to God and congregation alike.

Responsibilities

• Operate front-of-house (FOH) audio system during live worship services and events

• Manage in-ear monitor (IEM) and stage monitor mixes for worship team and speakers

• Conduct pre-service soundchecks and coordinate audio needs with worship team leads

• Set up and break down audio equipment in accordance with service schedules

• Route and support livestream/broadcast audio in coordination with the media team

• Troubleshoot audio issues efficiently and discreetly during live services

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the tech booth and stage

• Communicate proactively with worship and production leadership on technical needs

Qualifications

Required

• 4+ years of demonstrated experience operating live sound in a church, event, or venue setting

• Proficiency with digital mixing consoles (e.g., Behringer X32/M32, Yamaha CL/QL, Allen & Heath)

• Working knowledge of gain structure, EQ, compression, and effects in a live environment

• Strong critical listening skills, particularly in a worship music context

• Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to scheduled services and rehearsals

• Alignment with Encounter Church’s faith values and ministry culture

Preferred

• Bachelor’s Degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, or a related field

• Studio production and music recording experience, including session tracking, mixing in a DAW environment, and signal chain management

• Keyboard proficiency and working knowledge of MIDI, virtual instruments, or keys-based worship production

• Familiarity with Dante/AVB audio networking or digital stage boxes

• Experience with ProPresenter, Reaper, or live broadcast/streaming audio

• Background in worship production or professional AV environments

• Ability to read chord charts or basic musical notation

Contractor Terms

• This is a 1099 independent contractor engagement; no benefits are provided

• Compensation is negotiated per service or project; invoicing is contractor’s responsibility

• Contractor is responsible for their own tax withholding and self-employment taxes

• Engagement is at-will and may be structured as ongoing or event-specific

Typical Service Commitment

• Sunday services (11:00 AM) — arrive approximately 3 to 4 hours prior to service start

• Midweek rehearsals (Thursdays at 8:00 PM) as scheduled with the worship leader and team

• Special services: conferences, revivals, holiday services, and community events
