Primary Purpose:
Promote positive public relations between the school district and community. Prepare and provide information to the public about the activities, goals, and policies of the school district. Manage and maintain the district's website, educational applications, and data integrations to ensure accurate, secure, and efficient access to digital resources for students, staff, and parents. This role bridges the gap between public relations and instructional technology by maintaining the district's website, driving social media engagement, and ensuring seamless student data integration and software rostering.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, parents, or the public
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external
Knowledge of media relations and public relations functions
Knowledge of operations of a school district's communication needs
Knowledge of website content management systems (CMS)
Experience with student information systems (e.g., ASCENDER)
Experience with ClassLink or similar single sign-on and identity management platforms
Knowledge of user provisioning, rostering, and account management
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Bilingual (preferred)
Experience:
One year of journalism, communications, or a related field (preferred)
Public and Community Relations
Serve as the information liaison between the school district and the community. Serve as district spokesperson and coordinate media coverage including preparing press releases and publishing articles and photos in local media and other publications.
Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets to disseminate information about the school district, including news releases, media advisories, and facilitating interviews.
Develop and execute public relations plans to enhance the school district's reputation and promote its programs and services.
Serve as district representative or lead on community committees as required. Demonstrate awareness of district‑community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs, including speaking at civic organization meetings and making presentations.
Manage communication during emergencies or crises, providing timely and accurate information to the public and stakeholders.
Provide direction for strategy, design, and operation of the district's internal and external marketing, communications, public relations, and engagement activities with the community.
Social Media Management and Digital Content
Assist with marketing various district initiatives through digital and traditional publications to promote schools, departments, and student and employee achievements.
Ensure that public information activities contribute to the attainment of district goals and objectives.
Gather, organize, and disseminate information related to the district's operations, programs, and policies.
Design, prepare, and edit district publications including newsletters, recruitment brochures, and programs for special events.
Distribute pertinent information about the district and its activities to employees, parents, and the community via various platforms.
Coordinate writing and photography for stories and campaigns to be posted on the district's website, in publications, and on social media channels.
Respond to requests for data and district information as required in compliance with the Texas Public Information Act.
Communicate important information to school staff and administrators, ensuring consistent messaging across the district.
Track and report on the effectiveness of communication efforts.
Website Administration
Maintain and update district and campus websites to ensure accurate, current, and compliant information.
Create, edit, and publish website content, including text, images, documents, forms, and announcements.
Monitor website functionality and resolve issues related to content, navigation, accessibility, and user experience.
Ensure district websites meet state, federal, and accessibility compliance requirements.
Coordinate with departments and campuses to collect and publish website content.
Application and Platform Management
Administer educational and administrative software platforms utilized by the district.
Manage application configurations, settings, updates, and ongoing maintenance.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting for district software applications.
Assist with software implementation, testing, and deployment of new applications.
ClassLink and Identity Management
Manage ClassLink single sign-on services and application integrations.
Configure and maintain automated rostering and account provisioning processes.
Monitor synchronization of student and staff data between Ascender and integrated applications.
Troubleshoot and resolve data, roster, and authentication issues.
Manage user access permissions and account lifecycle processes.
Data Integration and Rostering
Maintain accurate student, staff, and course roster data across district systems.
Coordinate data imports, exports, and integrations between Ascender and third‑party applications.
Validate data integrity and resolve discrepancies affecting application access and reporting.
Work with vendors to troubleshoot integration and synchronization issues.
Training and Support
Respond to help desk requests related to websites, rostering, and application access.
Other Responsibilities
Develop and administer the department budget based on documented needs and ensure operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Maintain confidentiality of student and employee information in accordance with FERPA and district policies.
Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

This position requires ability to work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide and statewide travel.
