What We are Seeking

We’re looking for a creative, motivated, and collaborative Communications Associate to support communications, marketing, and client engagement initiatives. In this role, you’ll help develop compelling content, manage communication strategies, and contribute to projects that strengthen relationships, elevate client visibility, and advance mission-driven goals.
Working in a collaborative, hybrid environment based in Charleston, SC, you’ll partner with a variety of clients, gain exposure to diverse industries and causes, and play an active role in delivering impactful internal and external communications. About The Role

Hybrid 75% remote, 25% in-person – Charleston, South Carolina
Flexible scheduling and hours based on academic and personal commitments.
Opportunity for professional mentorship and portfolio-building experience.
Compensation: $38-42 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
This position is classified as an independent contractor role (1099) and is not eligible for employee benefits.
Key Responsibilities

Develop, draft, and edit a variety of communications materials, including newsletters, social media content, thought leadership pieces, and client communications
Manage social media content calendars, monitor engagement metrics, and recommend opportunities to enhance audience reach and impact
Visit client sites to capture photo and video content that supports storytelling, marketing, and engagement objectives
Contribute to the development and execution of strategic communications and marketing campaigns
Conduct research and analysis on industry trends, media opportunities, stakeholder audiences, and competitive landscapes to inform communications strategies
Coordinate and manage communications projects, timelines, meetings, presentations, and deliverables across multiple clients and initiatives
Provide administrative and project support as needed
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, English, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
1–3 years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, content creation, or a related field preferred
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences and platforms
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and major social media platforms
Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Buffer, Hootsuite, content management systems, or similar communications and marketing tools
Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with clients, colleagues, and external partners
Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset
