Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs installation, maintenance, and repair of City amenities and facilities associated with Parks and Recreation Special Events and public grounds.

Variable, forty hour per week work schedule accommodates weekend, night, and as‑needed timing of special event activities of the Parks and Recreation Department which are generally conducted outside normal working hours.

Performs general and skilled labor as necessary. Reports to the Special Events Crew Leader.

Minimum Training and Experience

High school graduate (or GED equivalent) and/or vocational or technical school training in electrical, plumbing, welding, or carpentry discipline or demonstrated ability to obtain such.

One to two years of progressively responsible experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Must have a valid S.C. driver's license.

Prior experience in the area of special events is highly preferred.

Flexible schedule and attitude are a must.

Physical Requirements

Must be physically able to operate heavy and light equipment, carpentry, masonry and asphalt tools, and numerous other small implements.

Must be able to exert in excess of one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of fifty pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of twenty pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to one hundred pounds.

Retirement
Retirement health insurance is available if eligibility requirements are met.

General Retirement
General Employees are enrolled in a 401(a) account upon hire. The account is funded by contributions made by the employee and the City.

City contributes 8% of employee’s salary & employee contributes a mandatory 2%

Vesting: 5 years of service

457 Plan

Designed for full‑time employees to save and invest money with tax benefits. Contributions are made to an account based on the amount the employee chooses to allocate.

Flexible withdrawal upon separation from employment

Withdrawals after age 59 1/2 or due to a qualified unforeseeable emergency

For general employees, the City will match contributions up to 6% of salary after 2 years of full‑time employment.

Roth IRA

Available for employees to complement other retirement plans by allowing for tax‑free earnings and, if needed, flexible withdrawals.

General Employees are all City of NMB employees that are not eligible for PEBA.
