The Audio Visual (AV) Engineer is responsible for the design, engineering, documentation, and technical support of commercial audiovisual systems throughout the region. This role develops AV system designs, creates detailed engineering documentation, and supports project execution to ensure successful delivery of reliable, high-performance technology solutions. The position plays a critical role in supporting sales, project management, installation teams, and clients by delivering technically sound designs that meet project requirements, industry standards, and customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Design commercial AV systems including video conferencing, digital signal processing (DSP), audio reinforcement, control systems, digital signage, IPTV, and AV-over-IP technologies.

Develop detailed engineering packages including system schematics, signal flow diagrams, rack elevations, device layouts, and cable schedules.

Create and maintain project drawings and documentation using AutoCAD and related design software.

Review architectural, electrical, telecommunications, and construction drawings for system integration and coordination.

Prepare equipment lists, bill of materials (BOM), technical submittals, and engineering documentation.

Support sales and estimating teams by providing technical recommendations, equipment evaluations, and design guidance.

Coordinate with manufacturers, consultants, architects, engineers, contractors, and project stakeholders throughout project lifecycles.

Conduct engineering reviews to ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and industry standards.

Provide technical support and guidance to installation, commissioning, and service personnel.

Assist with system testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and project closeout activities as needed.

Maintain accurate engineering records, documentation, and as‑built drawings.

Stay current on emerging AV technologies, manufacturer platforms, and industry best practices.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

Associate degree, technical diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Audio Visual Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field preferred.

Minimum of two (2) years of experience designing commercial audiovisual systems.

Experience creating AV engineering documentation including schematics, rack layouts, signal flow diagrams, and device details.

Familiarity with AutoCAD and technical drafting practices.

Experience with AV control systems, conferencing platforms, audio systems, video distribution, and networked AV technologies.

Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and construction drawings.

Special Requirements

CTS or CTS‑D certification from AVIXA preferred.

Manufacturer certifications from platforms such as Crestron, Q‑SYS, Extron, Biamp, Shure, or equivalent preferred.

Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to project locations throughout the region.

Ability to access active construction sites and equipment rooms safely.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong knowledge of commercial AV system design principles and signal flow development.

Understanding of DSP programming concepts, audio reinforcement systems, and video conferencing technologies.

Knowledge of AV‑over‑IP networking, structured cabling, and network infrastructure.

Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and related engineering software.

Ability to prepare detailed technical documentation and engineering drawings.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.

Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.

Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams, clients, and project stakeholders.

Additional Desired Characteristics

Experience with Revit, Visio, or other design and documentation platforms.

Experience supporting higher education, entertainment, healthcare, government, or enterprise AV environments.

Familiarity with emerging AV technologies, unified communications platforms, and networked media systems.

Self‑motivated with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Strong customer service orientation and professionalism.

Primarily office‑based with regular visits to client sites, active construction projects, and equipment rooms throughout the region.

Combination of engineering, design, and field support responsibilities.

Occasional lifting and carrying of equipment up to 25 pounds.

Travel to project locations may be required.

Standard business hours with occasional extended hours as necessary to support project schedules and commissioning activities.
