The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced
Director of Strategic Communications & Media Strategy
to lead a high-performing communications operation focused on breaking news, public discourse, media engagement, audience insights, and strategic storytelling.
This is not a traditional corporate communications role.
The ideal candidate thinks like a journalist, acts like an editor, and leads like a strategist. They closely follow current events, understand how stories gain momentum, recognize emerging trends before they become headlines, and can quickly translate complex developments into clear, compelling messaging.
You will oversee strategic communications, editorial direction, audience intelligence, rapid-response communications, content strategy, and media monitoring while guiding a cross-functional team responsible for informing, engaging, and influencing public conversation.
What You'll Do
Lead Strategic Communications
Develop and oversee communications strategies aligned with organizational priorities
Shape messaging frameworks and narrative positioning across multiple audiences
Produce executive briefings, talking points, strategic messaging documents, and communications guidance
Ensure message consistency across media, digital, social, and public-facing communications
Monitor Media & Public Discourse
Track breaking news, cultural conversations, public sentiment, and emerging media trends
Analyze how stories evolve across traditional media, digital platforms, and social channels
Identify communications opportunities, reputational risks, and developing trends
Deliver actionable insights that inform communications and leadership decisions
Drive Editorial Excellence
Lead editorial direction across written, visual, video, and digital content
Refine story framing, headlines, messaging architecture, and audience engagement strategies
Maintain high editorial standards across all communications outputs
Help build scalable content workflows that support rapid and effective communication
Lead and Develop Teams
Manage and mentor communications, content, and engagement professionals
Support hiring, onboarding, and team development
Build efficient newsroom-style workflows and collaborative processes
Foster a culture of accountability, creativity, responsiveness, and excellence
Partner with Leadership
Serve as a strategic advisor on communications, media, and public affairs matters
Prepare executive communications updates and strategic assessments
Help leadership anticipate emerging issues and opportunities
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on high-impact initiatives
What We're Looking For
7+ years of experience in strategic communications, journalism, media operations, public affairs, political communications, or related fields
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities
Strong understanding of media ecosystems, audience behavior, and digital communication trends
Experience operating in fast-paced news, communications, or public affairs environments
Demonstrated success leading communications or editorial teams
Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize large volumes of information quickly
Sound judgment, discretion, xsgimln and decision-making ability under pressure
Experience with media monitoring, social listening, audience analytics, or communications intelligence tools preferred
