Technical Director For Theater For Young Audiences

Loyola Academy offers its student body of nearly 2000 a rigorous and relevant college preparatory curriculum, a highly developed visual arts and music program, a diversity of athletic and extracurricular activities, and strong retreat and service-learning programs. The technical director is responsible for overseeing all elements of set, props, lights, and sound.
Responsibilities:
Attend scheduled meetings
Be available for scheduled build days and technical rehearsals
Plan and oversee strike
Order lumber and necessary building materials through theater operations manager
Be onsite to receive and unload trucks
Lead weekly production meetings
Maintain open communication with all directors and designers and meet as necessary
Create weekly work schedule for set, props, lights, and sound; the full production calendar should be created in conjunction with the directors and theater operations manager by the first production meeting
Supervise and instruct student crew
Communicate with all students via their school email or other system set up by directors
Implement backstage rules of conduct and safety for the run, props, lights, and sound crews
Locate required furniture/specialty items to dress the set
Locate, build or buy necessary props needed for the show
Check in with stage managers regarding changes to set, props, lights or sound from rehearsal reports
Supervise spiking and painting of the set and stage
Collaborate with directors to insure the set, props, lighting hang, and sound are completed and loaded-in by agreed date
Clean stage before tech rehearsal and store unused set items
Keep backstage in good safe condition
Stay within proposed budget
Clean and organize the stage and shop following the show; work with the theater operations manager to insure it is in the expected condition
Return borrowed or rented materials in a timely manner
Participate in a postproduction meeting, giving solicited feedback
Oversee the master carpenter
Requirements:
Understand the styles and traditions of theater
Understanding of how set, props, lights, and sound work together to create effect in a production
Have knowledge about sourcing materials available in an economical way is preferred but not required
Understand and have experience with safe rigging practices
Be a strong and willing collaborator
Clear communicator
Pay rate: Category C - $1845
