Music Director for Willy Wonka Jr. Summer Theater Experience Camp

Artists ReEnvisioning Tomorrow Inc "ART Inc", founded in 2018 by Jonathon and Nikki Romain, is Peoria's foremost arts-in-education non-profit organization. ART Inc provides arts education opportunities to nearly 500 students and teaching artist each year. The staff, board, volunteers, and teaching artists of ART Inc work tirelessly to generate programs for all students to imagine, create, and realize their full potential through the arts, regardless of their ability to pay.
ART INC is seeking a dynamic Music Director to lead vocal instruction and music rehearsal for its Willy Wonka Jr. Summer Theater Experience Camp.
The Music Director serves as the primary vocal educator for middle school-aged participants, leading daily warm-ups, teaching musical selections, and guiding students in performance preparation. This role involves independent leadership of music blocks, collaboration with the production team, and preparation for a final showcase performance.
This is a contractor role requiring reliability, initiative, and the ability to confidently lead youth in a structured yet engaging creative environment.
Key Responsibilities

Teach melody, lyrics, and vocal performance for five musical numbers: The Candy Man, I've Got a Golden Ticket, Pure Imagination, I Want It Now, and Finale
Lead daily vocal warm-ups (Monday–Wednesday and Friday mornings)
Run structured music rehearsal blocks independently
Operate MTI-provided backing tracks during rehearsals and performance
Support audition day (Wednesday, June 17) starting at 1:00 PM
Assist Artistic Director with vocal assessments during auditions
Help students develop pitch accuracy, vocal confidence, and expressive performance
Collaborate with the Artistic Director and Choreography Lead on rehearsal goals
Communicate regularly with Production Assistant/Stage Manager regarding scheduling and needs
Participate fully in Showcase Day (July 10, 2026) including warm-ups and performance support
Communicate proactively with Michelle Williams (Production Assistant) regarding scheduling, materials, or any production needs
Schedule & Availability

Camp Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Primary Work Block: 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM (Mon–Wed, Fri)
Weekly Availability:

Monday: 9:00–11:30 AM (Warm-up + music instruction)
Tuesday: 9:00–11:30 AM (Warm-up + music instruction)
Wednesday: 1:00–4:00 PM (Auditions Week 1 / music support)
Friday: 9:00–11:30 AM (Warm-up + review + enrichment)
Special Dates:

June 17: Audition Day (arrival at 1:00 PM)
July 10: Showcase Day (full availability required beginning at 9:00 AM)
Minimum Qualifications

Experience teaching music or vocal performance to youth (ages 10+)
Strong understanding of melody, rhythm, and basic vocal technique
Ability to teach using pre-recorded backing tracks (no live accompaniment required)
Comfortable leading groups of middle school students (grades 6–8)
Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to the full program schedule
Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
Preferred:

Background in theater, choral direction, or music education
Experience working in youth performance or summer camp settings
