Regional Sales Manager – San Francisco/Sacramento/San Jose, CA
Hill’s Pet Nutrition, a Colgate-Palmolive company, has been providing high-quality pet nutrition since 1976. Our Prescription Diet® and Science Diet® lines are recommended by veterinarians worldwide and are available in approximately 80 countries.
We are seeking a Regional Sales Manager located in San Francisco, Sacramento, or San Jose, CA to lead and develop a team of 10–12 customer development professionals. The role focuses on partnering with veterinary clinics and hospitals to grow consumption, market share, and overall sales performance.
Key Responsibilities
Define objectives and priorities for direct reports in alignment with regional and local market activities and communicate expectations regularly.
Establish and supervise individual performance against sales objectives and KPIs on a weekly basis, providing virtual and in‑person coaching and feedback.
Implement a hybrid customer engagement coverage model, setting clear expectations for Territory Manager behaviors and monitoring performance insights.
Develop a local customized action plan that meets the unique regional marketplace while remaining aligned to organizational priorities.
Partner with external customer operations managers and internal colleagues to build relationships, align on key metrics, and implement specific activities.
Demonstrate expertise in selling, negotiating, and leading sophisticated customer situations.
Lead the market Gross to Net (GTN) budget, executing brand strategy through prioritization of customers to achieve targets while balancing commercial objectives.
Implement distribution policy and comply with commercial selling principles.
Build commercial plans based on understanding of customer strategies and priorities impacting in‑store/clinic execution.
Lead, empower, and hold the team accountable for developing, implementing, and executing customer action plans to meet quarterly sales objectives and KPIs.
Consistently deliver fundamentals of customer engagement and use business analytics to drive fact‑based conversations and improve credibility.
Collaborate closely with business partners such as warehousing, fulfillment, customer service, and development to elevate issues or opportunities.
Identify, attract, train, develop, and retain high‑performing talent.
Develop a diverse talent pool for higher responsibility or deeper expertise within employee career paths.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
8+ years of prior sales experience
3+ years of key account management experience
1+ year of project or people management experience
Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of people management experience, managing a geographically dispersed sales team
1+ year’s experience in animal health or science‑related field
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $109,600.00 – $174,000.00 USD. Payment is determined by experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit‑sharing, and long‑term incentive programs for executive-level roles.
Benefits include medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, paid parental leave, disability coverage, and a 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions. Additional benefits include a minimum of 15 vacation/PTO days (120 hours for hourly employees) and 13 paid holidays. Paid sick leave is adjusted based on role and location in accordance with local laws.
