A Master Sewist combines the technical skills of a traditional seamstress with the creative and analytical abilities of a designer or engineer. This role is common in fashion, apparel manufacturing, and product development, where garments or textile products are designed,
engineered, and produced to meet specific performance, aesthetic, and functional requirements.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop garment or textile designs from concept to prototype, by hand drafting
Interpret technical specifications, engineering drawings, and pattern specifications to ensure product accuracy
Modify patterns for fit, function, and manufacturing efficiency, considering material properties and production constraints
Conduct fit and ergonomics testing on prototypes, making adjustments to improve comfort and performance
Collaborate with design, engineering, and production teams to resolve technical issues and optimize designs
Stay updated on fabric technologies and manufacturing innovations
Sewing & Production

Operate industrial sewing machines, sergers, and other textile equipment to produce prototypes
Perform precise alterations, repairs, and finishing touches to meet design and engineering standards
Inspect finished products for quality, fit, and compliance with technical specifications
Maintain and troubleshoot sewing equipment
Manage inventory of sewing supplies and request replacements as needed
Quality & Compliance

Ensure all work meets OSHA and safety standards for workplace and product safety
Follow detailed instructions and technical documentation precisely
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

Proficiency in sewing techniques
Ability to read and interpret patterns, technical drawings, and engineering specifications
Knowledge of various fabrics, trims, and finishing methods
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Creativity and problem-solving for design challenges
Effective communication with cross-functional teams
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Time management to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects
High school diploma/GED or higher
Prior experience in garment design, engineering, or production is preferred
Experience with both design and manufacturing processes is ideal
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time
Lifting, pushing and pulling of 25lbs
Gross manipulation (hand use for sewing, threading, and handling small parts like zippers, buttons and linings)
Work performed primarily in the Design & Engineering Department
Exposure to noise, machinery, moving equipment, and standard industrial conditions
May experience variable temperatures depending on facility conditions and seasons
Work hours may vary based on production demands, with occasional overtime required
Must follow all safety rules, wear required PPE and adhere to company safety protocols
