Position Summary
The EHS Director/Sr. Manager is responsible for managing the environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance, workplace safety, and environmental protection.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with applicable EHS regulations (e.g., EPA, OSHA); conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and inspections to identify and mitigate hazards.
Program Management: Manage EHS programs including occupational health, process safety, waste handling, and emergency response; coordinate emergency preparedness; oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste management (inspections, training, recordkeeping).
Chemical Safety Officer: Manage chemical inventory and disposal; create spill/emergency response plans; provide guidance on risk assessments; train on safe chemical handling, emergency procedures, and PPE; serve as technical resource on chemical hazard control and laboratory design reviews.
Training and Culture: Train employees on safety protocols; lead initiatives to foster safety, health, and environmental stewardship.
Performance Monitoring: Establish and monitor EHS KPIs to track and improve EHS performance.
Additional responsibilities as needed.
Qualification Requirements
BS/BA in Engineering, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Life Science, or related technical discipline.
7–10+ years progressive EHS experience.
Advanced knowledge of EHS management systems and legislation; familiarity with ISO 14001 and 45001.
Biopharma/biotech EHS experience required.
Expertise in hazardous waste management; chemical hazard control, chemical inventory/disposal, and laboratory design experience.
Experience with regulatory authorities/auditors and external stakeholders.
Ability to work with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
Strong written/verbal communication; data/analytics-driven decision-making.
Strategic, results-oriented, problem-solving; adaptable in fast-paced environments.
CIH/CSP (or similar) highly desirable.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions
Clean rooms (gowning and plant uniform); laboratories (lab coats and PPE); office environment.
