Assistant Director- Bulldog Marching Band

Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 13,000 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. Our District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City. The Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 has set an ambitious agenda for change, guided by the belief that all children, regardless of circumstances, can achieve at high levels and academic gaps can and will be eliminated with the support of teachers who deliver engaging, relevant, and academically rigorous instruction that excites students and instills a love of learning in them.
The Assistant Director will be directly responsible to the Marching Band Director and Fine Arts Division Head. Responsibilities include teaching students to accurately execute drill coordinates to correspond with field show music; playing an integral role in the process of show design and planning throughout months leading up to fall season; attending and supervising students at all rehearsals and performances of the Bulldog Marching Band, including Summer Band Camp; attending staff meetings as called by the Marching Band Director; supervising and guiding sectional rehearsals; assisting in all rehearsals, providing musical and drill instruction when needed; taking part in Student Leadership workshop, interview and selection process; building and maintaining a positive, cooperative relationship with the Association of Music Parents, community, teaching staff, student body and administration; maintaining accurate records of student attendance and personal information; coordinating distribution and management of student uniforms and all necessary accessories; overseeing field management and equipment with Student Leadership; and any other duties assigned by the Marching Band Director.
Requirements include displaying an enthusiasm for working with students and for the marching band activity in general; being supportive of the Marching Band Director and all music and athletic department staff members; accepting duties assigned by the Marching Band Director; accepting and enforcing the letter and intent of rules and regulations and the Code of Behavior with integrity; and dressing appropriately and arriving promptly for all functions of the Bulldog Marching Band. Previous experience with marching band/music education preferred; valid IL teaching certificate preferred but not required. Salary per salary structure.
