Job Overview

Seasonal Emergency Communication Specialist – Department of Public Safety – Bureau of Emergency Communications, Augusta, ME. Job Class Code: 8600, Grade: 19 (Professional/Technical). Salary: $26.88 – $35.74 per hour (includes 30% stipend). 24/7 coverage on a rotating shift schedule including weekends, holidays, evenings, and night shifts. Posting: June 9, 2026 – Closing: June 24, 2026.
Responsibilities

Act as the first point of contact for callers in need of help.
Coordinate effective response to emergency and non‑emergency calls.
Develop incident resolution strategies.
Search databases for pertinent information (criminal history, stolen property, motor vehicle data).
Document calls in computer‑aided dispatch system.
Operate communications equipment, including dispatch and radio systems.
Make prompt and accurate decisions under stressful conditions.
Handle multiple 9‑1‑1 calls simultaneously.
Detect discrepancies within agency databases and report inconsistencies.
Perform duties with minimal supervision and prioritize incidents.
During training, be available to work all three shifts.
Qualifications

High‑school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to pass fingerprint‑based background check and polygraph.
Within six months of hire, receive certification in one of the following: Maine State Terminal Operator, Emergency Telecommunicator, Emergency Fire Dispatcher, Emergency Medical Dispatcher (includes CPR training), NexGen 9‑1‑1.
