The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for Group Supervisor III positions located at the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC), a 64‑bed, staff‑secure facility serving male and female youth aged 12‑18. These are full‑time positions with a variety of available work schedules.
Responsibilities
Perform duties involving the education, employment, training, treatment, care and custody of juvenile offenders residing within the State Youth Training Center.
Maintain comprehensive records of assigned youths’ program activities.
Provide individual guidance pursuant to state or federal laws and regulations.
Supervise the activities of youths within assigned unit; directly observe work habits, social behavior and attitude to ensure conduct meets established rules and regulations.
Assist and direct youths in the performance of assignments, acceptable behavior, proper dress and personal hygiene.
Participate as a member of the treatment team to implement a treatment plan and document progress or problems in youths’ development.
Conduct intake interviews, review case history files, complete required intake forms, and interview youths to document personality traits and functioning levels.
Supply immediate needs such as clothing, supplies and room assignment; orient and instruct youths on unit rules and regulations.
Perform security checks of assigned unit to ensure safety and security of residents and the facility, conduct head counts, searches, lock checks and secure residents.
Respond to emergency situations, including searching for runaway youths, applying first aid and implementing appropriate interventions for aggressive or violent behavior.
Maintain and update case records, incident reports, accountability lists, off‑grounds reports, personal account logs, money withdrawal requests and clothing file sheets.
Instruct youths in life, educational and vocational skills following prescribed methods, including vocational and pre‑employment training in fire suppression, culinary processes, laundry work, and first aid procedures.
Assist youths with homework and monitor, evaluate and report their progress.
Participate in activities, act as a role model, officiate at events, provide instruction, secure equipment, arrange transportation and coordinate schedules with facility’s program and security needs.
Assist in the formulation and evaluation of a treatment plan and make recommendations on alternative treatment methods.
Coordinate and oversee group and individual treatment sessions; develop session goals, rules and content, document sessions, and prepare individual progress summary reports for review by the treatment team, judge, parole officer, legal guardian, and institutional staff.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, sociology, counseling and guidance, human services, social services, education, criminal justice or a closely related field and one year of experience working with youth in a custodial, employment, therapeutic, educational, recreational program or correctional setting with responsibility for performing vocational assessments, making oral presentations during group sessions and treatment team meetings, and providing vocational and life skills training.
OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience as described above.
OR one year as a Group Supervisor II in Nevada State service.
OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Knowledge of treatment team concepts and processes, juvenile justice agencies, applicable state laws, vocational assessment techniques and therapeutic approaches including reality therapy, behavior modification, anger management and rational emotive therapy.
Ability to systematically arrange juvenile behavior into appropriate groups or categories; make oral group presentations; define cause and effect relationships; evaluate case histories; control aggressive behavior; provide vocational and life skills training.
Authorized to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship).
