Communications and Social Media Manager
The Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA), a leading West Coast art museum, presents internationally-recognized collections and exhibitions and a broad array of cultural and educational activities.
Position Overview
The Communications and Social Media Manager reports to the Marketing and Communications Director and is responsible for developing, managing, and executing strategic communications, digital content, social media, and public-facing messaging that advances the Museum’s mission, exhibitions, programs, visitor engagement, marketing and brand identity.
Responsibilities
Develop, manage, and execute social media and digital platforms, including writing, editing, content development, and strategy.
Write and maintain editorial calendars, listings, and press coverage of exhibitions and events.
Create marketing materials including bi-weekly print and radio ads, video content, membership communications, quarterly newsletters, bi-weekly eblasts, and social media initiatives.
Provide content for the museum website and maintain institutional voice across digital, print, media, and social platforms.
Manage digital initiatives such as paid digital advertising, Google AdWords, and other web content updates.
Draft, proof, edit, and distribute press releases and other press materials, maintaining a local and national media contact list.
Track and archive press coverage and obtain vendor estimates as needed.
Assist in development of other marketing materials and provide administrative support.
Manage multiple communications projects from concept to publication, including timelines, content drafts, approvals, and publication.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
5–7 years of digital/social media, public relations, and/or marketing experience.
Proficiency with digital communication tools (email campaigns, online calendars, social media scheduling software such as Zoho, PR tracking/coverage tools such as Cision, digital media creation tools such as Canva, MS Office Suite, Photoshop, etc.).
Experience managing and executing social media initiatives on platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Google, etc.
Excellent personal and organizational skills, strong ability to multi‑task, and excellent written communication skills.
Other Information
Reports to: Director of Marketing and Communications.
Schedule: Full‑time, exempt status, non‑remote, with occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work; flexible hours required.
Compensation: DOE, $70,304 to $73,750.

Required background check and ability to perform occasional off‑site visits/errands, lift 25 lbs. occasionally.
