Area Director of Sales – Overview

The Area Director of Sales will be based at the John Carver Inn & Spa and will provide sales leadership and strategic support for both the John Carver Inn & Spa and a sister hotel. This dual‑property leadership role is responsible for driving revenue growth, market share, and overall sales performance across both hotels while ensuring alignment with company values, brand standards, and operational goals.

Responsibilities will span business development, account management, group and transient sales strategy, community engagement, and team collaboration. The primary sales leader for the Plymouth market, the candidate will work closely with hotel leadership teams to maximize occupancy, ADR and overall profitability through strategic planning, relationship building and proactive market positioning.

Pay: starting at $95,000 per year plus bonus.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop the hotel's marketing and sales plan aligned with market strengths and position.
  • Represent the hotel at community, industry and civic functions and cultivate relationships.
  • Lead, train and mentor staff – hiring, coaching, performance evaluation, disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Analyze competition and direct marketing activities to gain competitive advantage.
  • Maintain constant communication with key accounts.
  • Actively sell room nights through outside sales calls, tours and other channels.
  • Drive revenue to ensure quarterly and annual goals are achieved.
  • Develop sales action plans, forecast trends and adjust strategies to enhance revenues.
  • Ensure compliance with hotel credit procedures and audit guidelines.

Technical Skills

  • Strong sales and relationship‑management skills.
  • Numerical aptitude and proficiency in Excel.
  • Keyboarding and general office administration skills.
  • Digital marketing – stay current on trends in digital marketing and social media.
  • Business travel sales – 1–3 years’ experience and strong closing skills.

Experience / Education

  • Five years of hotel and sales experience, with a strong background in hotel sales, social media, digital media and content management. College education and/or equivalent work experience; Delphi.fdc a plus. Strong writing and communication skills. Hotel opening experience preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Travel to businesses and hotels, including overnight travel; flexible work hours including nights and weekends, especially during months leading up hotel opening. Extended workdays may be required during peak periods. Physical demands include walking or standing, computer keying, working at a desk, viewing spreadsheets and other written material, and lifting objects up to 50 lbs.
