Williams College is seeking an Audio Video and Architecture Technician to join the Art Department to support audio, video, and architecture studio courses taught in the studio wing of the department. The full‑time, year‑round position reports to the Director of Studio Operations and works directly with faculty, students, and other staff to support both the audio/video needs and the architecture needs of the Art Department.

Key responsibilities include managing inventory and procurement, overseeing student equipment checkouts and returns, organizing and maintaining the architecture studio, performing AV projects or duties as needed, and providing training and access for students and faculty. The role utilizes a wide variety of audio and visual capture equipment and primarily works with the Mac OS platform and Adobe Creative Suite.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, or at least 2 years of technical experience working with audio and video equipment and software, plus at least 1 year of rendering software experience.

Experience operating video, audio, and lighting equipment and the production techniques required for video production.

Working knowledge of audio and video equipment, lighting, and chroma keying.

Experience using Mac OS and Adobe CC Suite.

Knowledge of SketchUp with V‑Ray software is preferred for architectural rendering or a willingness to learn.

Qualifications

Knowledge of post‑production processes and operation of camcorders, DSLR/mirrorless cameras, and audio equipment; ability to support filmmaking practices in an educational context.

Ability to instruct and support students in studio resources across the art department for academic assignments and projects, coordinating teaching assistants collaboratively with faculty.

Strong organizational skills to manage multiple classroom needs across architecture, audio, and video courses, including supply ordering, maintenance, and general support.

Ability to organize AV inventory and develop efficient, accessible systems for equipment checkout and use.

Experience managing multiple budgets, including ordering materials for courses and individual student projects.

Interest and ability to research, develop, and implement instructional technologies and materials; create demo materials and conduct in‑class equipment demonstrations.

Collaborative approach to working with faculty and students, with demonstrated experience engaging, educating, and mentoring a diverse group of learners.

Interest in adopting and advancing best practices for new materials, technologies, and pedagogical approaches.

Willingness to contribute to special projects and support departmental events.

Excellent time management skills, working under pressure, meeting deadlines, and maintaining professionalism and flexibility in an academic environment.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and mobility to climb step stools or ladders.

Compensation & Work
The Audio Video and Architecture Studio Technician is a full‑time (40 hours per week), year‑round, benefited position with on‑site presence. Remote work is not available. Pay ranges from $30.00 to $33.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
