Job Summary WAMU 88.5 is a public media station owned and operated by American University. It is the source for local, regional and NPR news and original programs in Washington DC. The Temporary Producer, 1A develops, creates and manages stories, guests, conversations and produced audio for a news‑oriented live talk audio program with a multimedia presence.
Essential Functions Plan, shape, and execute segments related to current events, creating compelling content that sparks vibrant conversations on air and online.
Book guests, write scripts and copy, pitch compelling stories, and seek out unique uses for audio and audience engagement.
Work collaboratively with relevant colleagues to choose topics and guests, then independently execute production with little supervision, including coordinating with key departments and preparing research material and scripts.
Identify and prepare digital and social media assets to accompany and complement program content.
Oversee the assigned content’s social media presence, audience engagement, and podcast.
Collaborate with technical staff to ensure high‑quality production.

Employment Details Employment type: Temporary, full‑time
Duration: 6 months
Hours: 35 hours per week
Work modality: Hybrid (3–4 days on campus per week)
Salary: $75,487.00 – $80,000.00 annually
Required Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent
4–6 years of relevant experience in journalism and media
Additional Eligibility Qualifications Superb oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to identify trends and generate and execute complex creative ideas
Keen understanding of national and international current events, and excellent news and narrative judgment
Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously and assimilate large amounts of information efficiently under daily deadline pressures
Proficiency with audio editing and multimedia production
Experience creating content for social media and other emerging platforms
Experience working with content management systems (CMS)
Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Proven ability to identify and vet dynamic and sought‑after national and international guests
Time management skills, flexibility, and ability to work effectively in a dynamic, unpredictable news environment
