Carpentry Craftsman – WV Parkways Authority – Raleigh Co.
Location: Beckley South Complex in Beckley, WV.

Hourly wage: $17.48–$25.35 per hour, based on experience.

Essential Functions of the Job
Will report directly to the Foreman of the Carpenter Shop. Must perform at proficiency level in the craft of carpentry, demonstrating thorough knowledge of skills, methods, materials, and equipment. Responsible for leading, guiding, and training apprentice craftsmen; planning, layout, and supervising skilled and unskilled tradesmen. Performs all duties of a craftsman in one or more special areas: framing, forming, concrete, mason & tile, cabinet and finishing.

Skills and Abilities

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to accept supervision.

Ability to properly operate and maintain Parkway equipment.

Ability to work well with co-workers.

Exhibit leadership abilities.

Ability to read blueprints.

Ability to interpret BOCA regulations.

Basic knowledge of sectional equipment operations.

Basic knowledge of all areas of their craft while being first class in one or more areas.

Five or more years of advanced skills in the following areas of the carpentry trade.

Ability to organize and direct a large crew of skilled and unskilled laborers.

Skill in handling and preparing reports.

Ability to utilize all available man‑hours, both theirs and those of others.

Ability to withstand and work in adverse weather conditions.

Other duties as assigned.

Cabinet and Finishing
Knowledge of stain and painting, putty and caulking, belt sanding, installing trim, door and cabinet hardware, weather stripping, hand‑applying finishes, all trim work, plastic laminate, and building office furniture.

Framing
Capability to frame, roof, floor, and wall systems; knowledge of lumber dimensions, nailing, insulation installation, sawing dimensions, shingles and siding installation, sheeting; layout of all frame structures.

Forming
Knowledge of concrete forming jobs such as footers, concrete slabs, curbs; handles forms for barrier wall, retaining walls, parapet walls, holding tanks, culverts, and spillways.

Concrete
Knowledge of concrete pouring jobs: parging, placement, ranking, hand screed and sealing; operation of power screed, electric vibrator, and related equipment; reinforcement steel installation and finishing of concrete.

Mason and Tile
Knowledge of mixing mortar, grouts, cutting blocks, bricks, tiles; ability to lay block, bricks, hang and finish, tape, base coat, texture drywall; install various tiles and bricks.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Class B CDL.

Five years of experience in all fields of work within this section.
