Position:
Vocal Director for Theater for Young Audiences
Responsibilities
Attend scheduled meetings
Assist the director in the audition and casting process
Coordinate responsibilities of the music staff, including pit orchestra conductor and pianist
In conjunction with the director, create the rehearsal schedule including all musical numbers
Study musical score to identify potential struggles for singers and pit orchestra
Consult with director and choreographer to edit dance music and incidental music
Consult with the choreographer to edit the rehearsal score, accounting for cuts, changes in pitch, and rate of singing
Supervise and instruct principal cast members during rehearsals
Supervise and instruct chorus members during rehearsals
Teach correct music vocabulary to student actors
Attend and coordinate the sitzprobe with the pit director and entire company
Consult with the pit orchestra conductor to work on any music edits or changes in music including but not limited to the overture, entr'acte, key changes, and measure cuts
Requirements
Understand the styles and traditions of musical theater
Understand and have knowledge of the human voice
Be a strong and willing collaborator
Experience as an accompanist is preferred but not required
Be available for singing rehearsals and run-throughs
Be available for at least two tech rehearsals the week of the show – will alert director to which days these are ASAP
Time Commitment
Vocal rehearsals (schedule created in conjunction with directors)
Attend additional rehearsals, scheduled with the director
Dress rehearsals
Pay Rate
Category C - $1845
